In my opinion, 23:03 thats it!!! For me the magic part is: simple song requires a simple sound and a simple solo. The most simple answer is most probably the correct one, so yeh I can dig that JM might have used a Clapton mid boost, Saldano and CE-2 because thats what Clapton used. I hope that JM never tells us because the mystery makes the song even more special :)

Loved the track. The usual hallmarks of contemporary pop weren't super noticeable, I thought. There was autotune, but not blatant. The arrangement was synth heavy but with the guitar sometimes coming out front (as it should with Mayer). There were female background vocals, but only at the very end. The chorus was fairly early in the song, but not in the first 30 seconds. The list of my usual gripes go on, but Mayer successfully made something I genuinely liked while still catering to the younger crowd.

The Strat with the Clapton mid-boost does add something in the low mid that's missing from your tone chase with the PRS, pedals, 2-amp setup. Perhaps juice the Klon clone a bit more or maybe a slight bit of hair from the amp so the clone pushes a bit more? You're right, the tone isn't overly distorted but IMHO you should have just a wee bit more. Nice job as usual guys! We'll be watching for part 2 ;-)

It also has Methane's patented chorus sound, although as an example of chorus I'd go with Jaco. But if they want to go back to the 80s and get chorus rock sound, there are better choices, like Boston's Tom Sholz on "More Than A Feeling" or if you want something more jazz, the Crusaders "Carnival of the Night" with Barry Finnerty on guitar, that has subtle chorus/flange. Or maybe Carlos Rios on Gino Vanelli's Sally. Or how about the Yellowjackets Elamar with Mike Miller. kzitem.info/news/bejne/qqurzp1ocKKJrJw all with chorus-like solos. No offense to John Mayer. As pop recording artists go, he's a damn good guitar player, but the 1980s were filled with great guitarists, and people liked hearing guitar solos - a match made in heave. Don't sell people short, just have them listen to the real thing.

Check out Rick Beato's video on the greatest living guitarist ... John is amazingly gifted, talented and skilled on the guitar, not to mention he can sing while playing this stuff. Also, Eric Clapton has several times said that John is an absolutely amazing guitarist.

I'm probably gonny upset a few folk here. Can't understand why everyone's gettin a hard on over this song. It alright, nothing outstanding. I've listened to it and It doesn't make me want to run out and buy a John Mayer LP.

maybe not, but it makes people who appreciate real artistry go nuts because 95% of todays top 40 pop hits are autotuned synth music made on an ipad. You could make a song that's 50% the quality of what the iconic bands of the 60's-80's were making and it'll make a freaking tidal wave in the charts because real artistry is rarified air in the music industry these days.

You guys have done an awesome job, but I have to admit … Tomo Fujita’s suggestion in your outro does it for me!

August being my second favorite EC album (after Journeyman) this song is really a serious tribute to that era, not only the tone but the licks are Slowhand's best of the best

#Pete rips those E blues pentatonic blues licks pretty well. Sounding great! A salesman 'With' product knowledge . I can imagine Andertons are pretty well, all sold out on the PRS already. 🌺

If John Mayer ever did a song with Bryan Adams I think the Andertons crew might die of excitement.

Plot twist....Bryan Adams writes a much better song than Mayer can, he sings better than Mayer can and Keith Scott plays guitar better than Mayer. ...
