Confidence is definitely huge. I work with a guy who is an utter jerk. There hasn't been one person who he hasn't thrown under the bus and laugh about it. But guess what? By the next week they're back brown nosing him for attention again. He carries himself with a ton of confidence, speaks loudly and assertively. He'll also put a lot of facial reactions into his communication. People WANT his attention. Even though he's a self proclaimed ahole. He'll get all the invites. He's the first person people want to share their weekend stories with. etc...

I think some of these tips work well for women but not for men. I've literally had people say to me..."why are you always smiling? Do you know you're smiling? There's really nothing to be smiling about it's weird" For a guy it comes off as creepy. And it also makes you look like a push over nice guy/weirdo which is a detractor. So for guys it's good to let out a smirk or a smile but you better put that away fast and not let it linger to long or else it will ruin your manly confidence aura. For women, smile all day.

Personally I find guys who smile a lot attractive as hell and someone that makes me instantly like them as a friend and want to talk to them. Some people don’t like happy/smiling people because they aren’t themselves and don’t like seeing others smile. I think you should just do whatever makes you comfortable and happy.

Hi Shaina, I really enjoyed watching this video. Im currently in the last year of middle school and I just find it kind of hard to make firends because at school u kind of get a label that sticks to you. Do you have any advice for me??:)
@ShainaLeis
7 жыл бұрын
Hey Jessica! Without knowing specifically which labels you're referring to, the best way to break free from them (assuming that they're untrue) is to show people who you really are. Authenticity is key. Middle school years are probably some of the toughest because everyone is trying to figure themselves out...so know that you're not the only one struggling, that's for sure!!

You say to be yourself and I hear this advice a lot. What do you do if no one likes the person you are? I don't think I put on an act but it seems like no on really likes me. Also, do I be more positive? I think I am the "Debbie downer" and I don't know how to stop.
@ShainaLeis
7 жыл бұрын
Well for starters, do you really believe that NO ONE likes you?? If you think that way, it's going to be extremely difficult for you to put your best foot forward and be confident and comfortable around others. THIS is why you're acting like a debbie downer- because you have sucky thoughts about yourself. You need to first start with your thinking- and what you think about yourself!! The way you act and the way you're perceived by others is a direct reflection of whats going on in your mind. The way to act more positive is by having more positive thoughts!!

Just keep doing what you are doing ... by recognizing that it is all bigger than you. You listen to your viewers and you respond, trying to meet their needs; you interact with them and reply to them; you have even turned your own hurts into opportunities to help your viewers and others (I saw your video about how to handle "loneliness" - that one actually made me cry when I saw you cry, because it triggered those own moments in my life. Beautiful transparency and thank you for leaving it in the final cut). Keep doing all of this, Shaina. That is the path to not only your own success, but even more importantly ... your own happiness. I would argue that you are ALREADY VERY SUCCESSFUL. I SURE HOPE YOU ARE HAPPY, TOO. I believe you are and you should be. Do you feel me? :-) Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing what you do. It helps make the world a better place and people like me truly appreciate it ... but mostly we appreciate YOU!!! :-) Below are a couple of quotes from one of my favorite books and authors, Victor Frankl. His book, "Man's Search For Meaning," has had a profound influence on many. Frankl was a professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at the University of Vienna Medical School. But Frankl's greatest learnings came from his terrible sufferings during World War II when he spent 3 years in various concentration camps, including Theresienstadt, Auschwitz, and Dachau. If you haven't read this book, I would highly recommend it to you as an important book to read. It is not an overstatement to say that this book can greatly change one's life. It has for many. Thanks again, Shaina, for bringing your light and joy into our lives. :-) "Don't aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself. Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. I want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge. Then you will live to see that in the long-run-in the long-run, I say!-success will follow you precisely because you had forgotten to think about it." Viktor E. Frankl, "Man's Search for Meaning" "We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms -- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way." "Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms-to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way." -- Victor Frankl

Patrick- I saw this comment (briefly) when you first posted it, and I'm just remembering to get back to it. But now I know why it took me so long...because this is exactly what I needed to read today! Those quotes triggered something in me and I'm absolutely putting this book on my "to read" list. I can't thank you enough for sharing : ) and as always, thank you for those sweet words. Have an awesome weekend!!!

Hi Shaina, is this a rhetorical question? If not, to say the very least, I am 23yrs old, Brit born,female,ethnic minority,living alone,someone who has invested so many years and money and effort into trying to better myself and be more respected...but clearly nothing has worked thus far and I am beyond exhausted. Trust me I am a very positive and grateful person in spite of the reality of my circumstance. I just wish I could manifest a significant ly better quality of life and th at includes to be respected by one and all as I respect everyone.P.S. Being myself has never worked either.

You are so correct in all you say. I've learn't psychology and you have just demonstrated the 'what to do' and 'what not to do' when it comes to good empathy and connecting with like minded people. If someone is negative, it may be many reasons why, perhaps they had a bad day or something triggered them to feel anti social et. You are an inspiration! Have subbed you and look forward to more!d TFS xoxTanxox
