***** Hello I have a follow up question! Number 5 you refer to avoiding mucus producing drinks like milk... but as an extention of milk a.k.a. dairy products, do you avoid foods with dairy as well like pizza with cheese, chocolate candy, or the like? Or is it just strictly drinks that we should avoid? Thanks! I have an audition/gig tomorrow and I have to get this right!
@Singerssecret
9 жыл бұрын
For my own voice, I tolerate daily very well so I just steer clear of milk during and just before a gig. I still drink milk on my cereal that morning though. However, many people have a low tolerance to dairy and if phlegm is an issue for you, just cut out all dairy leading up to an important audition... then you can treat yourself to icecream afterwards once you've killed it!! :))

I run a Karaoke night and see a number of singers struggling with mucus affected voice problems. Invariably they are the ones drinking drinks with ice in them. Its not an effect like a cold or sinusitis, but it creates what I refer to as dead spots on the vocal chords. So only certain notes are affected. I always advise them to avoid drinks with ice; invariably they ignore the advice.

Thanks for the tips. I've been gigging for 30 years and rarely have vocal issues when singing. I don't drink or smoke. I usually do the vaporub with steam which helps. I will give the vaporub on my feet a try tonight as I've got a small cold but the voice is cracked. I've 2 gigs this weekend but tomorrow nights is a Wedding and there's no way I can let the Bride and Groom down. So I'm a bit panicky about it. I've been low frequency humming all day very gently as I've found it helps stop the mucus building up to much on the vocal chords and also is good for the air ways. I hope this is correct? As it has helped me over the years. 🤞

I'm extremely surprised you didn't mention the fact that when someone has mucus in their lungs very loud singing with very long noted (Handel's Messiah) helps in mutiple say: vibrates the chest and lungs which results in the loosening of mucus from inside the lungs, it also increases the surface area of your lungs literally loosening the phyical grip that the mucus has on your lungs and last because of all of the vigorous activity and the extra surface area inside of your lungs your body is your red blood cells are able to do more work in cleaning your lungs.

Not only with the nasal douche hurt without the satchet, but it also might make the symptoms worse. The reason it hurts is because of osmotic pressure. Mucus membranes are permeable. Permeable membranes of the body exposed to pure water are likely to absorb some of that water. In the case of nasal passages, this absorbtion can temporarily increase the swelling of those tissues. And while there's often a mucosal contribution to nasal congestion, it is often the swelling itself that is the primary culprit. The contents of satchet are meant to balance the osmotic pressure, essentially to make the douche as "salty" (sometimes literally using salt) as the water on the other side of the membrane. Or, quite possibly, very slightly _more_ salty, temporarily drawing out water to reduce swelling and open the airway. Although I'm talking so much trash about pure water here, that's only because of the salinity. As stated in the video, that water _must_ be free of bacteria and other nasty little things. Although rare, there have been fatalities associated with lackadaisical nasal douche hygiene.

your actually 100% wrong,Studies have found milk intake was not associated with increased nasal secretions, coughing, nose symptoms or congestion. Doctors have stated that Milk can thicken Saliva, which may coat the throat, but this simply gives the perception of more mucus, but it doesn't cause the body to produce more mucus or phlegm

Quit smoking !!! It causes phlegm & you always feel like you have something in your throat ... I know , I was a smoker for years ... I promise , once you quit the smokes or cut back as much as possible it’ll help you ... but quitting is best thing you can do especially during this pandemic ... I quit 8 years ago after taking a puff off bad cigarette (from a fresh pack of cigarettes & it was SO strong like I smoked a cigarettes half way, put it out & let it sit out for a few weeks 🤢it was baaaaaad & so nasty that I went into a seizure .. I never smoked again I was terrified .. That was 8 years ago ... just ask God to help you quit ... that’s what I did & he came through ... loud and clear ... And I did sing so much better ... 😉
