Great videos, thanks for providing these to the fish keeping community. Just a heads up though, those things 'inching' along the aquarium are snail leeches. Definitely not planaria (which generally glide along the glass). Anyway, I hope this is helpful.

Hey gamers wife. Nice video. I use Fenbendazol against planaria too. Works great. Thats how i use it: I use 30 ml Fenbendazol in 100l (22 gal) water. Let it in there for 10 days. Remember to use a airstone... to keep the O2 high enough... dead worms will rott in the water. On the 11. day i make 50% waterchange. And then i make 50% every 3 days. 3 times. Then i wait 2 weeks and redo the process. Why? Planaria lay eggs. and to kill the new hatched planaria before they are old enough to lay new eggs, u simply do the same process again. Greetings from germany, keep up the good work :-)

I love your videos and your energy! And this one as well was very helpful. I do have a question though. I’m learning by experience about pests that can get into your aquarium. I’ve been through the pest snails, detritus worms (was so disgusted until I learned more about them!) and now leeches. Leeches have almost discouraged me from this hobby. But I do love this hobby so I’m not giving into them! I had no choice but to part with my fish, as I’ll be having major surgery soon and have no one to care for them. But, I haven’t taken down my aquarium yet. My plants are mostly cleared out. I have two nerites left in there. It is very difficult to find information on how to rid your tank of leeches. The type I think I have are an Asian freshwater leech Barbronia weberi. Would you and aquarium co op have any advice before I give in and completely take everything down? If I have to start over so be it (it would have to wait until after my surgery), but if there’s a chance I can keep mine going I’d much rather.

I had problems with planaria and detritus worms. I was about to medicate my tank but I wanted to do it as naturally as possible. Medicine will be my last option. I wondered why I didn't have any worm with my previous smaller tank when I only had a betta and 2 Corydorys. Unfortunately, my Corys died in the process of transfering/transplanting them to a bigger tank without isolating my fishes (big mistake!!!). Only the betta fish survived. Long story short, I tried maturing/cycling my new tank for a month with just 1 female betta. That's because I also wanted to wait and grow my plants from seeds and a couple of plants bought from the pet shop, etc before I introduce more fishes. To my surprise three weeks after, there were thousands of them all over the glass. They were very disgusting it bothers me knowing there are worms on my tank! So I went to the pet shop, bought me 6 guppies, 12 tetras, 3 corydorys. After 1 day, problem solved! You can just introduce them to your tank and remove them after a day or two if you just need to get rid of the worms. Guppies I found to be the best worm eater. Looked like a frenzy I actually enjoyed watching them hunt the worms one by one. I couldn't see a single worm on the glass even after just a single day! I have a 25 gallons tank. 80cmx40cmx30cm dimension. Just incase someone out there has the same problem and looking for a better solution. Enjoy your Tank!

If you're considering the trapping method and don't want to buy/wait for a planaria trap what worked for me was to: 1) empty a 500 mL plastic bottle of water 2) poke 6 holes in the bottom of the bottle with a needle 3) put some fishfood inside the bottle 4) let the bottle rest on the floor of the aquarium with the poked holes resting directly on the substrate 5) empty the bottle once you notice some planaria in it (in my tank it was like every ~3 hours, not a long time) 6) rinse and repeat until you do this method and find no planaria in the bottle

I had planeria in one of my 5.5 gallon tanks. It was sitting empty, cycling a couple filters so nutrients were high. Once I was done cycling those filters, I took one out (for another quarantine tank) and put in one of my Male bettas. After he acclimated to the change in tank I noticed him starting to hunt them and eat them off the sides. You can't control this style of treatment, but my tank has been planeria free since then. Explosion of planaria in my breeder and shrimp tank. Probably hitched a ride on a plant I added at some point. Tried the natural method. Less feed and traps work a bit. Endlers won’t touch it, dwarf gourami not interested, Ember tetra don’t even look at them, white minnows steer clear, Angel fish bites and spits, yuck. Moral of the story, less planaria but far from eliminated.

My problem are shrimp. I thought it would be a good idea to introduce some shrimp for my fish to eat the seed shrip or larvae they produce, a nice clean source of live food. Well mistake. I chose bright blue mini shrimp because these are found in a few of our mountain streams around here and were free. Unfortunately the fish obviously cant eat enough shrimp larvae because soon the entire tank was encrusted in shrimp and in fact one or two fish choked to death by eating shrimp that were too prickly and big already to swallow. Shrimp are a pest before anyone decides to do what I did, worse than snails. Someone suggested making the water on the acid side because shrimps need calcium or something and wont be able to shed? I wasn't sure, the fish are pretty tolerant of PH being rosy barbs.

Can't get those traps in south Africa, i tried a whole bunch of home made traps. Eventually i discovered the bait everyone mentioned just didn't work. I killed a snail for the shrimp and two baby fish. Picked it up whilst covered in snails thinking it was a dead fish. To my surprise it had the planaria all over it! So i took a tiny glass jar, punched tiny holes in the lid put 3 crushed snails in! Finally it worked after many frustrating months! The baby fish were 2 baby Raphael catfish. They were a desperate attempt to see if they could bring the planaria population down.

This is an awesome video and wish it had come out a few months earlier. I was trying various things when a tank or two of mine suddenly showed up with P. (hitchhikers from plants from others--just like you). I have successfully used "planaria zero" which seems safe for shrimp. However, I had to order it from Japan. Your solutions, especially the one using alum is probably a great find. It does the same thing as the planaria zero which basically is a desiccant and "drys up" the worms. I will definitely try alum. I've also just taken the tank down and dried it out. That I'm hoping also works. However, I can appreciate that it's not an option for most people. Since I have a fish room, it's fairly easy for me to do but where there are live plants, I know this is not always possible.
