I use this method a lot so I have a few tips when using this . Make sure the bass is good enough alone without the reverb . Process after the convolver to make sure it isn't pure harshness . If the chord is too long, it'll mess it up so shortening it till it's a stab is good

There's also a way to do this using a vocoder, and also a resonator. I'm not nearly experienced enough in sound design to explain how either of those techniques works, but there you go.
@Astronaughty

The resonator boots certain frequencies for a period of time so putting a chord as input makes a bass resonate a chord

convolution is multiplication of the magnitude in the spectral domain (or performed across many samples in the time domain..). i don't know what kind of vocoders exist in vst3. there's a free phase vocoder in vst2 called MDA talkbox (unfortunately i believe it's limited to 11kHz or such). but yep running in realtime with a phase vocoder is going to do the same thing, if that's the process the "vocoder" uses. i haven't looked deeply into pitchmap's expressed dsp.

You can use whatever chords you'd like, I guess any tonal sound would do it actually. But works better with something with a chord within the key your song is in.

wait so you put the bass sample in convolver or is it the bass and chord playing at once?
@Astronaughty
2 жыл бұрын
You record the chord sound in to convolver and route the bass to the mixer channel the convolver is in. This way the chord sound in convolver will play with the bass, or any other audio input. It's basically a reverb with tonality.
