I'm 70 and retired towards the end of 2010. I was 57 years old and I enjoy every minute and in fact I stay busy doing things and love being outside. I wouldn't have the time to do a regular job. I worked over 37 1/2 years and I retired because my boss and I couldn't get along otherwise I was going to work and get my 40 years in. We moved from Illinois to Florida and now live in Missouri.

Very nice way for you to integrate your employees ambition into your jobs through a unique profit sharing program. I understand it's also designed to aid you and them in your retirement transition, but others could use similar policies in their work environments with their employees. A great video for entrepreneurs to learn from. Always enjoy , as I tend to say every time, your professionalism ! Thanks for sharing !

Great business model Tom, guys that want to try their hand at supervising will understand what it takes and appreciate anyone who is in that role. You’re developing future leaders that will work well together. Problems are a pain but also a source of knowledge on what to do when problems arise…don’t panic! Haha. Ryan is a great addition to the team, it didn’t go unnoticed his care on shoveling the step to prevent splashing. Also everyone’s dedication to ensure a great product for the customer by holding on to that plastic…that couldn’t be easy. Another great video! Keep up the good work.

My job over 37 yrs was with a large aerospace company where I contracted many various size businesses. It was so fulfilling to contract with small businesses. They worked hard were trustworthy and appreciative. The down side of small family business is the lack of specific plans in the case of retirement, sickness or even death. As you mention your retirement, you are making specific transition plans. Positioning your sons a path to continued business success is not only assuring their future but and many years “your” hard - hard work.

I'll be honest Tom, the thought of you retiring is something I hope you will certainly take seriously. You're still young (I'll be 67 in June) and healthy. You should at the very least start taking some 4 day weekends with Donna and enjoy. We have NO guarantee of tomorrow and should enjoy our loved ones while we can. I found all of my hopes and dreams wiped out when my wife died at 47. Since then, life just doesn't have the same meaning. Don't let that happen to you, please. I know you can't just quit and you won't of course. Enjoy your semi retirement, when that day does happen. Look forward to many more "Tom" created videos!!!! Ron

Oh yes, I sure have seen you guys doing that before. On a driveway. Y'all stood there holding that plastic over the lower half of that drive, and I was so astonished. That was in the early days of your channel. Such fond memories, now we see it repeated. True professionals at work. It is so wonderful seeing the steps you're taking to keep your business that you built going smoothly wout you there. My retirement and your retirement are different, but I am sure that you and TSH will be very strong and happy for years to come. Me - well, I completely left it all. I really felt completely free. You will remain the backup for a time. Tommy, Steve, and Matt may be running things, but you will still be the owner of TSH. This was another great pour, one to strike jealousy from the neighbors. I hate Y'all had to hold the cover, but hey, like you told Matt, others stayed home, Y'all made money! That patio wasn't harmed at all. Great job, guys! Thank you, Tom, for recording it, and thank you, Emily, for editing it!👍❤️🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸

Great job on the patio guys! So many great comments below from subscribers... My dad did the turn over to my brother & I just like your doing close to 40 years ago. Great plan! Im now retired about 2-1/2 years & love every minute of it. You don't have to worry about being bored. You have enough things you like to do to keep you going for many many years! Next step... Start taking a 1/2 day off a week with Donna, then 1 day, 2 days, etc so you can walk away & the guys can carry on during the week. They need to make the decisions without you there. One of the nicest compliments I've had from my project manager who bought my business was he can't figure out how I did all that I did on a daily basis. (I love the crazed look in his eyes now) 🤣🤣🤣 Carry on Tom!!!! 😊

Training the next generation to take over the business, showing them the pitfalls and joys but most important in my opinion the quality work ethic that’s common amongst every successful business owner. You can teach process, you can teach tips and tricks but it’s very difficult to teach always doing the right thing even if it cost you. Has to be engrained in them from very young, part of it is setting an example and from what I can tell you are a highly ethical man. Bravo Tom you’re a success in more than just business.

I met a guy in Florida and became very good friends and he was an electrician but had retired to Florida from Michigan. His two sons bought his business and did pretty good for a while but the one son kinda ran into a problem with money and the other son tried to keep it going but overtime they lost the business and the brothers don't get along after that, so I hope when the time comes they don't have that happen to them.
