Reading the comments I'm surprised no one has chimed in with the whole "Broski youz g0nna make da turb0 spin backwardzzZz" garbage lol. Granted I only skimmed the first handful of comments but in the year 2021, you'd be surprised how many people still believe it. Or that flutter is inherently bad for a turbo. It's not something you want to hear while ON boost, on-throttle. Generally if that's the case, you've got an issue though you can sort of force it to happen in a variety of ways. But if it's off-throttle comp surge, that's totally different. Basic physics also tells us that the shaft of a turbo, which is spinning at tens of thousands of rpm, can't just instantaneously stop rotating and start to spin backwards. It's stalling the air around the compressor wheel, due to pressure increase, and it's merely slowing the shaft down(not spinning it backwards) and that's where you get the tell-tale flutter from.

@@kyleboston5014 not safe, these subaru turbos are journal bearing turbos designed to run how it runs from factory, fluttering is caused from the air trying to fight the blades motion since the block off plate , the boost has nowhere to go in the system but back at the turbo. This will cause your turbo to fail much quicker. I did this for like 5mins before I blew my td04
@WRXRAFSAN
3 жыл бұрын
Sometime people refer to it travelling backwards to explain the motion the air is going back towards the turbo but you’re right the blades are spinning hella fast in one direction and so there’s no way for it to spin backwards , it’s just trying force the air towards the turbo and that’s the result of the flutter. This does cause excessive wear on the bearings causing it to fail If you guy can please chime in on my video with the hks to help explain more to the idiots who are commenting wrongful information on my video, please thanks

Note: it was already at 285,000km so it’s had mileage on it, so it might’ve been already on its way out. 1. this is not turbo surge. turbo surge is when your turbo flutters on throttle and IS harmful to the turbo. 2. turbo flutter like this won't necessarily damage the turbo. I'm running a stock sti turbo with no bov for 10k at 1.4 bar just fine. 3. it is not possible to make a BOV "imitate" turbo flutter because a BOV vents the air out which prevents flutter. smh 🤦

it's actually fine, it might slightly shorten the lifespan, but as long as it's not using a shitty sleeve/ceramic bearing it'll be totally fine. @@DriftNick nice, probably not making enough boost to blow it and probably have a stock ball bearing turbo that can handle it, unlike Subaru turbos that are journal bearing turbos. Also old Nissans technology and tuning isn’t as complex as newer Subaru are. Literally people; even myself have stalled from changing the airflow of the bypass/blowoff valve charge.
