Actually in February and March is the best time with nice prices, just need to look for them, ACE, Trader Joes , and some Walmarts , Lowes and HomeDepots ,will have really good quality bulbs some ready to bloom and in sale as the Christmas season fever has pass. If you do it right you can have them bloom by Mothers Day I have done it many times.

5:00 scheduling blooming times - using the crisper in the refrigerator: remove the bulb from the pot, cut off the leaves and shake off the potting soil, put the bulb in a paper bag and place in the crisper in the refrigerator (35 to 40 degrees) for 4 to 8 weeks, repot, water and put in a sunny window, wait for regrowth and new blooms. Great info!

Best thing i did was; got my amarylis around christmast time. It bloomed, leafed out, dead head the stalk, when it got warm i put them outside, fertilize and let i lt grow throughout summer. When it got chilly, i just placed them in my closet where there's no light and forget about them. The leaves will wither and the soil will get bone dry but thats what you want. Say October through Dec. Come around December, i pull them out repot and trust me itll come into bloom.

Can I just tell you how much I love you? I found your pothos propagation video about 2 years ago. I love the simple way you explain things. Your directions are straight forward, your videos are educational and easy to watch. There's no incoherent babble about your day or long intro about why you decided to make a video (which is what I normally have to sit through on any plant video). You just give the information in a calm, direct manner. And in the pothos propagation video, something really resonated inside me when you said, "This is easy. You'll have great success.". It really gave me reassurance that I could do it. And I have! I now propagate plants for Christmas and give them as gifts. So thank you. When I got the notification that you just made another video, I KNEW it would be good, and you didn't disappoint. Thank you again for the knowledge that you willingly, skillfully and easily share. You have made a difference in my life!

Most of us use the fridge for food and don't have a giant fridge that sits there in anticipation of being stuffed with a plant! So many contradictions between "experts"! Others say to wait until the leaves turn yellow and die back in order that the leaves absorb the sunlight and send energy back into the plant. This makes sense to me.

Amazing and thank you for good and informative advice :-) I will try to take care Amaryllis for first time and now it is more light outside but still cold. The leaves have come right now and are growing for every day. In May - August I will take my Amaryllis outside for sunshining days. September - 15 December will store the bulbs..in dark room upstairs. Hope that the flowers will come up before Christmas and decorate beautiful in my apartment. Best wishes from STOCKHOLM -SWEDEN

Thank you very much for this! First time Amaryllis grower here in northern Ireland and my flowers only appeared a couple of weeks ago after planting in mid December. Fading now, but hoping I can get them to appear again next season. Only thing is, one of the varieties I have is a glorious creature called Carmen which has produced two flower stems with five huge blooms on each stem, but no leaves whatsoever. Maybe the leaves will grow after the flowers have finished? Just not sure how the bulb will gather energy without any foliage. The other variety I tried was Mont Blanc which only had one stem with two lovely blooms, and plenty of lovely leaves. I staggered my planting and potted up two more Carmen a month ago, and strangely one of those bulbs has produced two stems and what looks to be the start of some foliage on the way. I'll wait and see what happens, maybe it was just too cold here at Christmas for Carmen to manage to produce both flower stems and foliage too. Will follow your tips, thank you again!

I live in Guatemala where it is "eternal Spring," 75 degrees year round (no air conditioning or heat needed in the home). Can I just plant the amaryllis bulbs in the ground outdoors and leave them to go through their normal blooming cycle and die-back alone, with no interference or "care" from me? I have seen this done some places and they seem to do fine. Your opinion please!

Does the amaryllis bulb have to be in a small tight pot? What happens if I use a large pot for one bulb? Or can I plant 3 to 5 bulbs together in a large pot?
@debikm

If you plant amaryllis in a larger pot, you'll get more bulbs in a couple of years. I live in Florida, mine are in the ground year-round and I dig them up every few years ad give some away, plant the others in new places.

Ok so a lady down the street gave me a ton of bulbs I never put them in the frig I put them on the side of my house and I watched a video and just took off the old stuff and planted the bulbs in the ground. The leaves came out but never got a flower.I have just the leaves and they never bloomed for me. It has been over a year and the leaves look healthy but no flowers. I don’t water them much they must get the right sun because they are full of green leaves! I live in Florida. Zone 10. Will they flower. I put food on them today and gave them water. Thank you!

Sounds like you have to force it in to dormancy, since you live in a warm climate. They won't bloom without going through a cold "rest" period. Move them to a darker area and stop watering as much. Let the leaves die off, cut them away, then put the bulbs in the coolest closet you have for 6 weeks. Either that or put it in your refrigerator like this guy suggests. After that, bring it back out to a sunny spot and wait for new leaves to grow. When leaves begin to bud, start watering it again as normal.

First Amaryllis owned, I’m in So. Florida and I think I missed the beginning of the dormancy period. It’s December 26th & I’m going to cut the leaves back now, put the bulb in my Publix bag in the fridge and wait 4 weeks. It’s cold outside now so I’ll use these cold days to get it cooled off before I chop the leaves off. Hopefully, I didn’t wait too long and I can get it to bloom by Valentine’s Day.

Hydro stones, dont know where you buy them in the US although I think he sells them. I used to use them in the 80s when I lived in Germany they were all the rage and really good. Now I live in the UK and found some at IKEA but they did not have the little watering themometer that goes with it.
