I don't have much time plus struggle with getting motivated going to the gym. But your videos have helped me so much. I use the lat.pulldown machine and can pull 40kg (started in July 2021 at 20kg) while my bodyweight is 64kg so i hope that I'll get stronger within the next year and might be able to get to the pull up within this year 👍☺️ Edit: two months later and I got my first pull up!!
@purefucknmetal

I've been training for about 7 months, couldn't do one pull up when I started and just got 10 in a single set for the first time this week. My advice - negatives, negatives, negatives. Lat pull downs didn't have much benefit too me, just do negatives. Slowly replace negatives with bodyweight reps when you can. I'm about to start incorporating weighted now myself. Next stop, 20!
@Ddmd1789
5 жыл бұрын
ive never done negatives. Just regular back work and after 11 months of lifting I just tried to do for fun and I got 9 in a row. When I started i couldnt even do one. I think the key is getting stronger on the key muscles (forearms, biceps, lats,rombs,etc)

How often did you practice negatives? Is your weight the same? 10 pullups in 7 months is huge!
@purefucknmetal

@@AprilBloomer 3x a week for 3 sets of 5 initially. Once i could do 5 reps I tried the Russian fighter pull up program with mixed results. Since then I've dialed back to pull ups 2x a week. My body weight started at 162. I bulked to 185 and I'm currently 175
@robr7200

@@purefucknmetal Congrats that's really great. I am kind of in the same boat (not being able to do a pull up right now) due to a combination of being overweight and not enough strength. Rather than wait until I lose the weight I need to a few weeks ago I started doing negatives 3x a week. If you aren't overweight and can't do a pull up doing negatives 3-5x a week for most people will get them to a pull up in a month. I am not sure how long it's going to take me, I am guessing 3 months of continued weight loss and doing negatives. Once you can do a single pull up if you are doing the right program your growth is exponential. My goal is to be able to do ten before the end of 2019. I also recommend working on strengthening your core, there is a lot of abdominal engagement when doing pull ups. This video is really good and informative if you are looking for more detailed information. A USMC Major (Misty Posey) put together an 8 page document that's available online discussing the best training methods and progressions. It's got a lot of great information in there and recommend anyone who can't do a pull up or anyone wanting to increase their pull ups check it out.

A very informative video. I used to be able to do multiple chin ups and pull ups many years ago. Though that was when I was super light. I am much heavier now and I really struggle with chin ups etc these days. It took me an incredibly long time to work up to the point where I could do a single pull up (in current times.) One thing I notice though is that if I hang from the bar with arms full extended and stretched out, I feel a pain in my lower back. For that reason, I can't hang like that for very long. That did not happen when I was younger and lighter. Regardless, I haven't exercised for quite a while so Ive got to start from scratch again.
