I really admire your honesty and openness when talking about your condition. I also suffer from a degenerative condition of the spine which has left me with severe spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal and severe compression of the spinal cord). This has left me with muscle weakness and severe muscle cramps and spasms (which I take Baclofen for). I also suffer from tremors and tics. Those in themselves are difficult to deal with but on top of that I also suffer from severe chronic pain which makes doing most things extremely difficult. The stenosis has gotten to the stage where I can no longer walk more than 10 metres without a break. I can only stand still for about 45 seconds and sit for no more than 20 minutes before I need to lie down and recuperate. Recently I’ve had problems with my vision and memory. My doctor has told me that I most likely also have MS. I constantly struggle with depression and anxiety and constantly question myself whether I want to continue this way. Thankfully I have my wife, my sister and my brother in law, who along with my puppies and my faith keep me sane. The tabletop hobby though is a huge part of my motivation to keep going forward and I am in fact starting up my own channel at the moment. It will look at engaging in the tabletop hobby when you’re on a budget. I will be doing DIY hobby supply recipes and alternatives, reviews of bargain hobby tools and supplies, 3D printing on the cheap and many other great ways to save money while in the hobby. I’m also in the process of creating something big for the hobby community that hopefully will take off and benefit everyone in the hobby. I’ve been working on it for 6 months so I will be ready to launch it when I launch my own channel. The reason I mentioned all of my ailments wasn’t to boast. I want to show everyone no matter what situation you’re in, even if it seems completely hopeless, you can triumph over it. That’s what I love about the hobby. You can adapt it to your special needs even if you’re bed bound. There have been times I’ve painted in bed! Absolutely love your channel and everything you do for the community. You’re a bright flame.

As to the last question I am once again shilling hard for Deadzone by mantic. The two player starter set hovers around 80 on most sites, though the patient can sometimes spot it for 65 on amazon, contains two factions, normal human soldier dudes and space rats, decent amount of scenery and everything else you will need to play barring glue and paint. Furthermore new factions can be added at vwry reasonable costs, faction starters can be had for 25 quid which give a reasonable variety of options and a enforcers specifically can be bought off amazon in a ten quid box that will work as a small strike team. On top of all this the game is super easy to understand as it's grid movement system takes alot of the finnicky positioning stuff and makes it a total breeze.

One of the most fun things I did was split the "Fury of the Deep" AOS box with a friend who lives in Liverpool. They loved the design of the deep sea elves, and I am a dwarf fanboi through and through. So, I took the angry fiery badgers, and they took the slippery twinks. And now we have an agreement to get the big centrepiece beasties for the respective armies and we're going to paint them as Blastoise and Charizard respectively ^^ Plus, I just share cool things I find online. Especially mythic americas by Warlord. I fully intend to just find a way to get both them and their partner into a variety of game we can unpack and play out of the box. ^^

I can't stand the rules I want to enjoy a game with my friends not spend it looking up special rules and needing 15 books to play a game (ok I exaggerate but you know what I mean). Frankly I think the company's run by people more interested in profit than quality now and as a gen Xer I was there at the beginning but it's lost me now.

Board game hybrids do the job. Stuff with tokens and cards. Even if the game is dead simple like OPR for exemple, those components in a more complex game help with the transition. Warmachine was very easy to rope people in. In modern days that would be kill team. But nothing will work if people arent interested in the universe you game in. "But there is miniature agnostic games" those are a trap, a game with no lore has no way to rope people without a model collection already. So with all this into account the best way would be find what verse your friends like and get the relevant game.

I've recently found out just how bad my close depth perception is from a lazy eye. It doesn't really affect any other parts of my life, like it works fine at distance, but within about 2 feet Its pretty bad. Which makes precision painting difficult, because when you're painting tiny stuff, you kinda want it right in front of your face. It's very frustrating when you feel like you're painting the model but your brush is an inch away so you try to correct and hard jab the brush directly into the mini. I've had to learn to paint kinda at a diagonal, so it's easier to interpret how far the mini is from the brush.

In my experience, is giving them the option of choosing a game based on looks and faction lore. Also, dont be afraid of proxying minis from other games even. Im thinking about pitching my friends into playing necromunda with 40k models. They like RPG's, I like 40k, one likes admech and the other orks but big armies are out of budget and kill team is very dense (without having a story). Necromunda is also dense but you more attachment and investment even when outside of the hobby. Tru making your friends think of the hobby without you mentioning it or them doing it

I got a fair amount of friends into Infinity by buying a few 2 player starter sets and running demo games. Skirmish games often have a much easier entry point. It's also really important to have fair and simple lists for both teams and to make sure to help new players even if that means you point out ways they can counter/beat you. I've known loads of people who have been introduced to a game and the opponents brought out their tournament list and wiped them turn 1 which just pushes people away.

Awesome tips, mate. I too prefer a higher work surface, and I have braced a couple of boards under the tabletop that I can pull out and prop up my elbows on, to straighten up my back Much like a jeweler's bench. I also have carved a few blocks and braces out of foam for keeping shaky hands steady, one with a notch carved out of the top to brace my airbrush, like a rifle at the range. I can comfortably line up shots and spray a bit, move the block or the piece, then keep shooting. Fat foam grips on craft knives are also a wonderful thing, and I'm sure have saved me a few stitches. Cheers, Dave!

Then again it helped that I have played a fair share of Warhammer video games and got burned out on an IT job (anything non-digital gaming was much more appealing to me and still is). I'm autistic and my friends have been trying to get me into 40k for years, and tbh I do like aspects of it but I just don't like any of the factions enough. I apparently have "annoyingly niche taste" or something and like really non-humanoid aliens but the nids and necrons aren't enough for my taste. All the xenos I've liked that I have seen are ones that aren't represented in the game in model form at all like Enslavers , which sucks as it looks like there are a lot of very cool ones in the lore. The few models I did like were the blackstone constructs, especially the guardian drones - but it looks like you can't even get those anymore and don't have any viable way to make an army/force either so I'm kind of stumped sadly.
