The problem with that, is if it IS cheap enough with a wet rate, you are better off NOT buying if you only plan on doing PPL. Why? Taxes and other fees. Taxes alone here would push at least 2k extra, let alone parking it and other bullshit fees, and once you need an annual if you aren't quick about getting the PPL knocked out you could be well beyond the price needed to just rent a 150 or 152 wet... Here a good 152 is running between 75-100$ hr wet. Especially with today's prices, I haven't seen a 152 worth its weight below 20k since Jan of this year, probably due to the ADS-B requirements (and the pandemic?) and everyone having to spend 3-5k on ADS-B. If I did see one for closer to 15-17k that wasn't completely FUBAR, I'd probably be all over it though, even without ADS-B. My brother can help install it since he has his A&P.

Totally agree, there are some things thou that won’t make sense until you go to the plane, but if you can get your written out of the way, it’s huge. Another thing you can do to reduce long term costs, is go out and purchase a Cessna 150/152, in that 15 to 25k range, get your flight training and test done, then trade up. It should be relatively easy to re-sell and get your money back, but make sure you get a good pre-buy inspection and stay clear of high time engine. I don’t recommend doing what I did and buy a pacer for training. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great plane, but learning on a short coupled tailwheel will be frustrating. It will near double your training cost/time. Wait to get that tailwheel bigger engine aircraft after you have your ppl. :-)

I did exactly the same. I already watched and read everything, before I started the practical training. With the exception that I did the knowledge test later, after my solo. And on that point I slightly disagree, as many things click later, after one already starts doing it, discussing things with your instructors, slight details, that will help for the written. So I wouldn’t entirely rush it. Otherwise, it facilitates the training, if you already know, academically, beforehand a lot.

Gleim, Gold Seal, King, they're all about the same, just pick one and go for it! The sooner you've soaked up the content and passed the written the sooner you can start flying. --- Well, technically, you should go ahead and get your 3rd class medical out of the way while you're doing online ground school. This is just a physical exam by an FAA certified doctor and it costs about a hundred bucks, and is not covered by any insurance, no big deal. You'll get a medical certificate after you pass that and you'll need that before any CFI will allow you to fly an airplane by yourself (solo). You also have to apply for a "student pilot certificate" which is the other thing you are required to have (in hand) before you can solo.

My first flight at the controls came after a few years of jumping from them and see your point in taking a flight but work on a traing program that would allow the new student pilot taking off and land the aircraft on his first flight within reason and not one flight school officers that even today. Thank if your first flight lesson, not your first flight you knew how to preflight the aircraft, new how to plan a cross country flight, new how to use the flaps, knew the airspeed of the aircraft and knew how to taxi the aircraft at 25 to 40 knots from the start, and could use the radio and understand ATC Its possible you could have solo 5 hours O-under if you had spent time with a sim program & in a RAT Things all ways change and in aviation it's slow at times and for good reason some day some flights schools will use a flight sim program and Rat before the student takes his first flight and for good reason, it will make it safer for new pilots were so many things can go wrong, it will raise the level of exp new pilots need to be safer at the start and cost will be no higher that the current rate and it could even drop

Just curious, what are the requirements for private pilots license? Like, what course or whatever should I buy from that kingschools website you linked in description, what all do I need to accomplish to be given a private license? I’m very new to all this, I’m just curious... So if you could please answer, that would be greatly appreciated!

Kitfox doesn’t have a left hand throttle stock when sitting on the left does it? One throttle and it’s in the middle? I’d have to fly on the right side because I don’t think my left hand is skilled enough to fly lol

Will they require you to still take those basic courses? Like how to talk on radio and so forth.

Did the kit you bought come with a used engine? I would have assumed it to be new but in your other video with the failure you said the engine was 20 or so years old.

Wow, now this is an idea. Been interested in flying since a child. I always thought $12k-$15k minimum. Thank you for the info.

Would it be worth getting an Ultralight (with training) and gain some Hobbs hours on it before doing CFI PPL training ? Maybe do Sports Pilot and work your way up. In my case I want to get hours asap vs the cost (and I may not need to do PPL as I just want hobby flying). Great advice in the video and will look into the Kingschool training.

Yes I think that would be a good idea. Just make sure you are competent at flying the ultralight. And you’ll definitely want to just take the light sport course.

Awsome info! I will check that out. A book was recommended to me. Its called The Killing Zone. A survival guide for new pilots with low hours.

I'll have to look it up, sounds good! I think some good advice for new pilots once they start feeling comfortable in their plane, is to NOT show off. Its hard not to though! In my skiing career, it seemed like I always got hurt when I would show off.

Hi Jonas. Just found your channel. Which Kitfox do you have? I first looked at building one in the late eighties. Did you build yours?

Grate advise the world of aviation has advanced so much with the online courses link King and Y tube it makes understanding flight planing along with communing to ATC and if you live near a major or a very active airport you can listen with a scanner or Handheld radio to ATIS, Approach control, Ground, and Dep control as well At first, it may seem like they're talking 100 words per min= but over time you can learn what they're saying and to copy it down on a knee board that's what I used. With all the low-cost flight sim programs and equipment as well it possible to set up a system and practice all the things in the course from taking off & landing to stalls. No it's not going to be as good as full motor top of the line 50 K unit but with a little time, you will know at what speed the aircraft stalls at what V ne or Ma speeds are. I have work around aircraft for a time and as an E-4 was able to fly out of US bases and its quite a fealing standing next to Lt or CAP at flight Op and getting a weather briefing or filing a flight plan as a pilot or holding short as an A-10 comes in for a touch & GO. at lease it was for me coming from my first assist in the service and running into old friends who were not cap's flying helicopters and took me down low flights in a fixedx wing where I was PIC but knew that military pilots had what it took to fly us safe The LSA or Sport aircraft have open up the world as well from low-cost aircraft under 10 K that make you fill the wind like a motorcycle to fully enclose cockpits, and the avionics can be a simple handheld VHF and outside and Ant, A low-cost GPS and VFR flying only, or spend upwards of a 100k for a top of the line LSA that will cruse 150 + knots and top of the line avionics. You can work around airports and its possible to find pilots that will give you a flight now and then and can sign your log book as well. I was lucky in some ways an Old WW2 fight pilot help me get into college courses and getting station were I could keep flying as an E-4 and working one out in places where I got to fly with some good pilots Some of the new Sport rules make the pilots rating less than a privet rating, you can build your own aircraft and many prove units are flying , as well, Take his advice for he has many good points joined a flying club, college or even working around a flight school washing aircraft can help cut cost as well and if you thank you wish to fly and money tight know all you can before you start I don't mean you should not a one or two flights but when you commit full time know all the speed of the aircraft and IF possible you should take and pass the FAAwritteng test its goos for two years I thank and try to fly at least once a week when you go for it And fly the sim 1-2 houres a day when you start At times it's hard to give advice for oue words may not come across as we wish.
