As recession fears mount on Wall Street and inflation remains well above the Fed's 2% target, some of the top commentators in markets, business, and economics have been sounding off on just how bad they think the next downturn might be - and how far stocks may have to fall. I need ideas and advice on what investments to make to set myself up for retirement, my goal is to have a portfolio of at least $850k at the age of 60.

Put it all into dividend stocks and then keeping dollar cost averaging. I’ve been investing through the bear market and unlike most people who are down 20-30% or even 50%, I’m only down 5% on the year. I cut losses at around 20%; sometimes I wait for recovery, but if the stock goes back to that level, I sell. I like stocks that aren’t so volatile like SCH, JEPI, JEPQ, VZ, T. I try to keep my dividend yield at 7-8%

I disagree. I think these kinds of videos are important and I think Humphrey did a great job explaining. If you have the ability to reach 100k, I think you can apply the same values and skill sets to get to 1m given the right amount of time.

I went from $0 in July 2020 to my first 100k in about two years - summer 2022. Im a debt free truck driver so I was able to chunk most of my net income onto my 401k, roth ira & my taxable acct. As of today I'm already up to 132k. Mathematically I should be between 150 & 160 now of not for the brutal 2022. I already see it speeding up

I have a gripe. why did you not include the fact that you need to make 100k post tax. so your math was wrong for the $48 dollars an hour. depending on where you live, you would have to make almost around twice that much to account for taxes, CPP, EI etc. and that assumes you save all 100% of that money. so you'd have to be living as a dependent with your parents hopefully.

Can you do a video on: Worked my whole life. Suffered tragedy. Lost EVERYTHING -nearly my life. Recovered health with great dedication. Now 63 and starting over. Income: $3100/mo but disabled. No debt. No savings. Expenses: about $2000. Could save $1200/mo for 6 years. =($90,000) I’ll be 70. Now what advice can you give to reach financial independence and still enjoy what life I might have left?

I am disabled, making 2k a month on SSDI. Took me 9 years but I made my first 100k. When i became disabled I cashed out my 401k (with a 50% match that's insane not to do it, best interest you can get just from that), bought a fixer upper in iowa so now I have no house payments, $800 in property taxes a year, cheap utilities, cheap groceries (plus I garden in a wheelchair). Lots of scrimping, we're talking hard scrimping. It is doable even from the bottom. Now things get fun.

I'm on this very road myself! I really like that you made the note you did as it comes to frugality. To me, there's a massive difference between being frugal and being cheap. Being frugal is just becoming conscious of where you spend your money and cutting back on the things that really bring no joy to your life and are costing you extra money for no reason. This doesn't mean you can't enjoy your life and spoil other people, it just means you're more conscious. Great video Humphrey!

Like that this is broken down with some realism and the idea that you need to generate INCOME to save. Seen so many people online talk about saving, but if you're only making $40k a year no matter how frugal you are there isn't going to be much left to save after living expenses eat up the majority. You need to get creative, build skills, learn to spot opportunities and once that income is up, don't waste it on stupid things. Pay yourself first.
@kito1san
Жыл бұрын
The idea is great. But I believe the other factor of taxes is not put in. You can't really make $50 hr and expect to have 100k in 1 year. Also, you have expenses monthly. Just those 2 factor will be higher than $50 hr. Now see how much you need to find as a salary and the majority of people will find they are not qualified. Perhaps starting some business, but that is also a lot of risk and expense to run a business and again won't be plausible to make in a year. The idea is nice, but not sure if it's realistic.
