I am planning to be an exchange student in Japan and i'm worried because it's going to be my first time. One of the people that worked in rotary visited our school and introduced their program. I got interested and checked it out. I want to go so bad so i'm planning to go on the upcoming Rotary meeting. Do you have any tips on how to live in a country as a first timer including how to manage money?
@irlsiriusblack
Ай бұрын
I'm with Rotary also!! For managing money I'd recommend looking into getting a part time job or two and investing into the savings towards the exchange. Depending on the wage and what else you have to pay, I recommend you adjusting this, but from my experience with money and saving, I'd say put aside 1/3 of the money you earn from your part time job to go towards leisure activities and then the other 2/3 of money towards the exchange. Personally, I get small allowances each week which I have put towards the exchange, but I know that isn't the case for everyone, but if you do get allowances, put 1/2 into the exchange fund!! For the country part, if you're not familiar with the language it is preferred that as soon as you find out your country, you study to learn as much of that language as possible before departure. While there, try and learn the language within the first week. You can do this by using a dictionary in classes to search for unknown words without using Google translate, as that may help stick with you more. Also try pick up on tone to figure out what the person is trying to convey if you do not know what they are saying. For living in the country I'd recommend getting in touch with the latest trends before going, researching the fashion so that you fit in more predominantly when you arrive. I also recommend getting to know your host families and putting aside time to spend time with your host siblings (even if it's doing something you may not enjoy) to get to know them better, ESPECIALLY if they're younger. Try make friends as well! For the school side of things, just try and keep up, reach out to your home country counsellor and your host country counsellor for help when you feel as though you need advice!! I hope youre exchange year goes well!!

Loved the vid! I had few doubts regarding exchange programs and it would be highly appreciated if you could help me with it. Firstly, I'm planning on going on an exchange to usa in te senior year of high school (year 12). It's because I'm gonna do university in usa. I'm a bit confused because here where I live, students "choose subjects" in 10th grade. They follow these subjects in 11th and 12th. It's like a concentration in college. But I've heard it's not the same in USA, you're gonna need to focus on every subjects. So, like how am i gonna do a transition to grade 12 of American high school after attending 3 years of high school in a different nation? Also, do exchange students get diploma from American high school if they do year 12 from there?
@NatalieMatz
3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Sorry for a bit of the delay responding. And well, most of my knowledge about American high school comes from YT, Neflix and conversation with some friends, so I'm probably not the most reliable source of information. Anyway, firstly, I think everything depends on whether (or how) you pass SATs and official subject tests, because they are more important than the high school diploma, which just means you finished the school. SATs and other tests count when you apply to uni. I talked more about this in my video about applying to different countries for uni, so you can check it out: kzitem.info/news/bejne/15CC0WGNkGd5hnY So, don't worry too much about your subjects, because I guess that they will know you're an exchange student, and help you out, and then, you probably know some stuff that is being covered there. Lastly, all of it depends on what college and high school you want to go to, what subjects you want to take and whether you already did SATs or not. If you have more questions you can DM me on insta, but I will be more of an emotional support than information-provider hah. I hope it helps?

The conditions in my country are not that good, so it would be great if I get a scholarship to anywhere The colleges around here are really great mostly, but they're not many, they're hard to in and if it isn't public, it's really expensive (the public and the private have almost the same level) And high school in my country is REALLY BAD. I actually study in a private school with a partial scholarship, but I don't have too much hope for the future So I'm applying to every scholarship I know and your video helped a bit, thanks

@ilmabintehasan5125 @lamgladysz1 Do not give up hope… If you are from outside the U.S. and would like to come to the U.S., I recommend checking out the KL-YES program. It is a fully funded scholarship for high school students living in countries with significant Muslim populations to come to the U.S. and promote peace among countries as well as stand as an ambassador for their country. If you are from the U.S., there is KL-YES Abroad for American students to go to select countries with significant Muslim populations. And just like the YES programs, YES abroad is also a fully funded scholarship. The YES Programs and YES Abroad are both funded by the U.S. Departmemt of State and Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. I highly recommend looking at these to see if you would like to go with them. It’s a really great organization to be with. :)

First, sorry for not replying before. The biggest problem with answering this question (and the one you asked below) is that there is no universal program for teenagers moving to study in another country on their own. You need to find a program (like Rotary or IFU) or a school (like Aiglon or UWC schools) that are meant for international students. So eligibility criteria depends on what they say and it's not the most transparent process. Usually you need good grades and something that will make you stand out like competitions, interests and knowledge.
@NatalieMatz
2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no? They are free but it's not like you can just come there and enroll. Like for example you can find a fantastic public school in London but there's not really a system for you to go there unless you already live there. They are not meant for international students, that's the thing. I also search for info on this but there's not much, you need to start by being registered as a resident there
