Reminds me of an old car commercial. Smith is coming back to work after an apparent 3 day weekend. As he stops at the gate, he chats with the guard about his new car(the subject of the commercial). Then, as he's driving around trying to find a parking space, the story starts going around and goes from "Smith got a new Optima" to "Smith got a promotion, with options". As he's riding up the elevator it becomes "Smith's taking over". Finally, as he steps off the elevator on his company's floor, he finds that the company name sign behind the receptionist has been changed and she's now answering the phone "Hello, Smith Worldwide?" They don't make commercials like they used to.

This one hits a little too close to home for me, having been the subject of someone else's gossip. I have an aunt by marriage, a Southern Belle from Mississippi (Bless her heart) to whom I never tell anything unless it's absolutely necessary. I know the minute I do tell her anything, it will be broadcast far and wide to everyone in her social circle. She called me out of the blue the other day to tell me the personal business of a friend of hers, a woman I don't even know, because the first friend she told wasn't sufficiently sympathetic.

I had a coworker who used to tell me the craziest things going on about her life. One day, I asked, "Why on Earth do you tell me these things?" (Some of them were really private matters.) She said, "I'm just venting. And I know you wont tell anyone." I guess at some point there was a test involved. I will listen to gossip, but I never repeat it.

No one is so bad they don't need prayin' for. Jesus dined with the tax collectors because they were the ones who needed him the most. Bless all the hearts, both good and bad, but especially the bad. About the only Kesha song I like, but she put it well when she sang, "I pray for you at night/ Someday, maybe you'll see the light /Some say, in life, you're gonna get what you give/ But some things, only God can forgive ... Sorry ladies: A gossip is an abuser. If you've ever been the victim, you know. Gossip is one, twisted side of the story, to which the victim rarely has the opportunity to respond. Don't enable abusers by spreading their dirty work around. Words of gossip are no prettier or cuter than the ugliest swear words.

not everyone gossips. As for real connection and valid conversations sure that's good. But then again I like ideas more than people. And big concepts instead of small talk. Also yes people in the south can be nosey. And small towns are well known for everyone knowing everything. I'm very against that. I don't need networks of spys. People just need nice people around them. They don't need to know everything. Also I don't think it matters how you tell it. Some people aren't interested either way. Trying harder to be interesting about something boring or tragic doesn't help. But sure I'd imagine your girlfriends on the edge of their seat. Just you know not me.
