I'm growing out a pixie right now and I'm averaging about 1" of growth per month. It's insane! I'm taking biotin, a multivitamin, a prenatal vitamin. I also do a coconut oil deep conditioning treatment once per week and I massage my scalp daily. I only wash my hair 2-3 times per week and limit heat styling. Just in case anyone was wondering :) I'm sure that my growth rate will slow down as it gets longer but right now I'm kicking butt :) I measure it every month on my hair-anniversary. Coconut oil is amazing because it helps to keep the water in the shower from opening the hair shaft, which keeps your hair smooth and keep moisture in.

It's really sweet that you made this video to help people. Although, I am a stylist who has short hair and frequently grow mine out to recut into a new style and I have to say... Washing your hair has no effect on growth. It has to do with your digestion. Hair is a protein waste product of your body and as long as you don't overuse heat tools and snap the ends off you have nothing to worry about as far as growth.

Sister Grace It was great having a pixie! I really enjoyed it, and it took very little time to style in the morning. I don't regret it. I'm only growing it out because my school wants me to (strict catholic school). Right now it's about jaw length and I style it like a bob. It's surprisingly versatile.

Since I have started curling it I like it a lot more and I'm taking your advice and trying to embrace it and enjoy it as I grow it out and use it as an opportunity to experiment with my hair. I also appreciate your advice about avoiding cutting it unless you have to. That is what I'm planning on doing. Your hair looks really pretty curly.

Great help. I am currently trying to grow out my pixie as well.. I am using a hair band to make it look better. I am feeling self conscious about how it looks. I do cut my own hair, but I hid my scissors so I would not be tempted to cut it. My coworkers tell me to stay away from the scissors. I will really try to be patient. I will color my hair soon with Garnier Olia. I recommend it for shiny, healthy looking hair and it lasts pretty long. Thanks again. Janet F.

Thank you so much for these tips! These will be helpful when I decide to grow out my pixie cut in the future. While you were talking, the whole time I was thinking, "Dang, this girl is an expert..." and then you mentioned that you were a hairdresser! I just got my pixie cut two weeks ago and already the hair on my nape is getting longer which is starting to flip a bit. So, I would definitely try trimming it. The biggest mistake I had done to my hair was using heating tools when my hair was already naturally straight and shiny. I completely damaged it which led me to cutting it all off into a pixie cut (a choice I do NOT regret since I've always wanted to do it since high school).

i grew mine out from a pixie it was as short of yours and now almost 10 months later it is now to my chin the thing for me was trims trims trims even if it is only 1/4 inch every 6 weeks will get rid of all split ends and let fresh new hair grow cut back on coloring perming and bleaching as much as u can any kind of heat put ur hair u will need a thermal protector always always use one no matter if ur blow drying and flat iron or curling it. brush it regularly and i agree mostly time time and more time and iam a professional as well thank you

I've been growing my hair since September. First cut into a pixie last February. Got an undercut (left side shaved) in May. Let it grow out through summer. Cut my hair on September fifth into an even shorter pixie than before so my hair would be the same length, and my bangs were just above my glasses. Five months later, my bangs are down to my chin! I've been taking Spring Valley Hair, Skin, and Nails tablets and using Mane and Tail shampoo & conditioner on and off since December 2012. I feel like they've definitely been helping, but I'm going to switch over to Not Your Mother's because I feel like my hair has gotten used to the shampoo and needs a change.

Hi Erica, I want to grow out my short-short hair. I have been through the process before, and it is painful! I watched your video, and you suggest washing hair as little as possible. I get really bad bed-head so I typically wash every morning. Also, I wonder how you deal with product that was used in previous days? My hair gets kind of lifeless and flat to my head with no body. What can I do to add fullness? I really want to grow it out, but not sure if I have the patience!! Help!!

I like having short hair but idk if I should grow it back to a bob. With my hair being brittle and since I color it a lot (being a red head is hard work) I was wondering if you have any suggestions for just maybe getting it a little longer or in a more healthy state than it currently is. @Livelythesinger

Definitely keep cutting the back. That's the best and only way to prevent it from becoming a mullet. Let the front and sides grow out, but keep the back trimmed! When the rest of your hair matches the length of the back, then you're good to go. The back doesn't grow faster; it's just that it sits farther down at the nape of your neck. Keep it up and you'll see the results (:
