I am buying my first house and the backyard has no lawn. I was already interested in a clover lawn and this fully sold me 🥰

I love seeing your content transformation from the gray hair tutorial to kids to homesteading. I feel like I’ve done the same transformation (except it was red hair for me in my 20s). And now I’m coming back full circle to being a homesteader who also wants her fun beauty products back and to watch all the diy tutes.

My grandma's house was on a half acre. Her yard was all clover. My very best memories involved running thru, walking on, and laying around on that cushiony clover! This warmed my soul to watch ❤ I'm going to do my yard now too.

We had such a patchy front lawn, and seeding never took. Three years ago we decided to try a clover lawn and it took beautifully. We’ve since added a bit of creeping thyme and other pollinator friendly lawn alternatives and it looks absolutely fantastic. Love the clover lawn!

Love a clover lawn, so magical 😍for anyone interested there may be a clover native to your area that you can buy seed for and intermix it with the dutch clover too! I found out recently that there’s a clover specific to my neighborhood that I’ll be planting in Spring. Love the gardening content Kristi!

So glad you did this!! I've wanted to do this for so long. But I have questions. 1) I live on sand dunes in Florida where everyone insists on having a lawn...in a place where lawns are not supposed to be.🙄 Our lawn is mainly treacherous weeds with patches of brown grass. The sand beneath the thin layer of arbitrary soil drains all the water away quickly. However where I live the water is free. I have a very tiny lawn and we're trying to sell. Will this work for me? 2) My mother swears we have to lay straw down first because of the birds. Because of all the birds (mostly corvids) she's worried the seeds will do more to feed the birds than establish the clover -- which is why she says straw has to be laid down and it's a pain so she doesn't want to do it. Is there any truth to this? And good god I'm so glad you told me about the spiders. I have a major phobia but if it helps sell the house I'll tolerate it.

Do you pick up the clippings after you mow? I’m considering a clover lawn. We have very compacted soil that needs to be aerated, but it’s already growing some clover (and moss). So instead of fighting that and trying to get grass, I was thinking of embracing the clover but want it to be something that’s easy to care for.

It all depends on if you want 100% clover. We prefer a mix of grass and clover. Grass handles heavier traffic a bit better and some varieties do better in shade. So it really is up to you!
