Glad you're expanding to this lawn mastery program. I've seen others take a stab at this and I wonder about the validity of their education. One guy that has a Zoysia channel had a podcast talking about poa annua. I had questioned his ideas before, but in this podcast, he said the best thing to do was to pull up that section of lawn, go to the big box store and buy a pallet of SOD and lay it down. I saw this as about the most difficult thing to do. Why not spray it with Negate or Revolver and kill the poa? I believe it is a listed weed that will be killed. Also, why not buy a 3 inch plugging tool for planting bulbs or transplanting grass plugs like Zoysia. Just pull up a 4-6 inch plug where the poa is, and invert it and stick the grassy side down in the hole and allow the stolons and rhizomes to spread over that area. While talking about rhizomes and stolons, another option would be to take a spade or other small item and cut all the rhizomes and stolons around the poa, and spray that isolated spot(s) with glyphosate. Cutting the rhizomes and stolons should keep the glyphosate from translocating through the other mother/daughter plants and killing them too. Then the rhizomes and stolons can fill that area back in over 4-6 weeks, and probably less. I see you have a dog in many of your videos...Royce? As a fellow DIYer, there is a master dog trainer that has courses out for dog training. You can check him out on YT at American Standard Dog Training, and if you want to learn more, check out his paid courses at the DIYK9.com site. There's a $19.99 membership that has a $150 course (or $250?) included. I'm one of his moderators and I knew nothing about dog training when I started with him last November. I could probably make money as a professional dog trainer with what I've learned. That $20 is a limited offer though. That's been in place since last October or November, and a lot of people have been taking advantage of the offer which includes "The Perfect Walk" course, weekly live training and Q&A with Garret Wing, as well as access to every previously recorded live session, FB members only access where moderators and group experts can answer your questions. Any we feel are beyond us we move to a list for Garret to answer on his weekly live. They also have breed consultation services as so many people do not properly match the breed of dog to their life style and living situation and they end up rehoming their pets. I know the $19.99 price is changing soon, if it has not already. There was a meeting last weekend while I was on vacation discussing this and I've not been able to watch the recording to see when these changes will go into effect. For $20, it's a great way to improve the quality of life for your family and your dog. And by learning how versus paying someone else, you'll know how to fix problems versus going back to a dog trainer and hoping you remember what your dog trainer told you. Most dog trainers do a board and train for 6 weeks for $2,500 to $3,500. This guy gets $20,000 per dog for a 6 week board and train, and he is so busy he is turning business away. He has a lower teired board and train where he helps train, but his other dog trainers do most of the training with his oversight. I make zero dollars off this, but I support it because I know how much it has helped me with my dog. I do not get to train my dog nearly as much as I need, but I can take her for walks at night and many times I'll just drop the leash and she'll stay in a good heel position walking next to me, even if she see's rabbits or other prey animals. For a purebred Husky/purebred Treeing Walker Coonhound mix, but with over the top high prey drives, that's pretty impressive. Garret doesn't currently have a course for scent work such as tracking and trailing, but I want to get into that and see if I can train Echo to be able to help with search and rescue type situations with the local police department, or rescue squad. Sorry for the ramble, and hopefully I'll see you there. DIYK9.com/membership spells out the membership details fully.

Love your content! You've helped me tremendously. I'm going to take your advice this coming Fall and scarify instead of aerating before overseeding. My questions: 1)I'm in NJ.Whats a high quality fescue seed? 2)Should I mow low before dethatch/scarifying?

I've watched your new lawn seeding series of videos as I get ready to fix my NC fescue lawn this fall. Love all of your content and have one quick question. When in the process would add soil to fix low spots? Would I do it right after scarifying and before the 2nd application of Tenacity (right before putting down seed)? Thanks!!
@pestandlawnginja

I would do it same day or time as you’re about to seed and do the final tenacity treatment

Well done! I made the experience, that a little heavier cover of peat moss increases the advantages in terms of shorter time needed for germination and better moisture-control a lot, especially when seeding in spring or summer. The frequent irrigation all day long might be a little tricky for the already existing lawn. Are you planning something to prevent fungus-issues? Greetings from Austria! 🇦🇹

3 cubic ft per 500 SQ ft is my experience. Also for KBG, I slit seed to minimize wash out concerns. Not a big issue for rye and it's fast germination. No starter or meso? Luv the Ginja!

your neighbors must think "Think guy is crazy....he's got the nicest lawn in the neighborhood and he just killed it all"....my neighbors thought that when I scarified the lawn last year...the ground was a little damp and there were mud clumps everywhere...I even thought, "What the heck did I do?"...but a few weeks later after seeding and watering, the lawn was thick, green and NICE!!!

I think its a marketing ploy. grass is comprised of 70% water. if you want it green it has to be watered.

Hey Ginja, everytime a scarify in the fall (and break ground) i end up dealing with poa annua and triv. I understand overseeding in spring can be a gamble, but my thought is i'd rather gamble and deal with crabgrass (and treat) than any kind of poa. Any thoughts on this? Love the channel, just trying to SLAY!
@pestandlawnginja

Hey Joel! once poa sets in it has the potential to stay for a few seasons. my suggestion is to use a pre emergent twice per season to help control it coming in. I would also start using a growth regulator to help kill the poa.
@joelehoe3542
Жыл бұрын
@@pestandlawnginja yea, i havent used pre emergent in the fall yet,i been overseeding/renovating last 3yrs in the fall. Typically when the poa starts to germinate. I use pre emergent 2x in spring and no crabgrass. My thought was to switch to pre emergent in fall (for poa) and seed early spring, then maybe a late pre emergent for crabgrass. Just figured it would be easier to control crab than poa. Lol. Slay that Lawn 👊

Why use acidic peat moss when we try to add calcium to sweeten the lawn? You’re using rye, I’m using fescue. Is that the difference?

the thin layer of peat is simply to hold water. nothing more. when over applied it effects the seed germination.
