I'm a Janitor and so many office workers tend to throw away their orchids once the flowers fall off! I've collected those lovely plants over the years and they seem to bloom every year for me! :)

My cousin has 3 orchid plants. He does very well with them. One of them he got at CVS believe it or not. It's amazing with light yellow flowers with pinkish purple lines on them really cool specimen. He's always telling me orchid facts including that vanilla comes from a certain type of orchid. Also, be aware that some of the cheaper ones that have really bright flowers they spray with coloring to turn white flowers different colors that wont be there next time it blooms.Anyway I'll share this video with him, thank you Mr. Chang

I have orchid’s that are at least 30yrs old and they continue to bloom lasting about 5 months sometimes longer. I have them in glass containers in reptile bark and water them once a month in the winter and every two weeks in the summer. I believe that they can survive for 60yrs. I live in UK 🇬🇧

Hello there. I have around 7 orchids in my house one of which I have since 2016. They give me around 2 blooms annually. 4 of them are kept in water jars ( with 2 cm of water ) - I change that water weakly- this neat trick gave me a TON of new roots! ( orchids can be kept in water, provided you change that water ). As for the ice cube trick, that is a definite No No! The cold water will dmg the roots

Thanks for confirming wha tI have been saying all along about bonsai...is. you cannot over water the bonsai, so long as the root ball is not sitting in dacaying water.

I used to throw mine away after flowering but then tuned in to miss orchid girl on yt. She is the queen of orchids and i save all my orchids now and do incredibly well with them. And the ice cube thing just dont do that. Water them properly and forget the ice cube myths. And i certainly wouldnt water a bonsai that way just saying. And u wouldnt believe they actually grow sideways on trees but we put them standing up in pots . They are great plants to maintain and enjoy

i too enjoy "Miss Orchid Girl" (Danny) and i also do orchids as well. I mirror your comments "EXACTLY"! i've been successful with orchids to a point where i decided to delve into Bonsai with my father-in-law who has tons! yep, i agree about the ice cubes too!! "Phooey to Ice cubes"! 😁

it really helps to repot them as soon as you buy it, they are typically potted in soil or moss that's too thick and orchids should be in something much more airy
@MiltonChang-ee6rq

I wouldn't recommend that. The moss seem packed, but plenty air goes in when water evaporates. Using moss instead of bark is the reason what makes Orchid a successful business. so much easier to grow them commercially than bark.

Nice change of focus and good information. I like growing adenium (desert rose), sansevieria and succulents (such as euphorbia) in interesting pots. I place them in my category of "artistic plants." They provide winter interest indoors during winter. Best wishes.

You make such a good point. I forget how much I paid for things just a few weeks ago. And this is also very relevant to my new garden trees. I have terrible soil that that doesn’t accept moisture from a hose.

Talk about timing. Decided to try Orchids - again - after “years” of last failures with them. Found just like you indicate, it’s time and simple efforts to keep them going. I found once every week, sometimes every two weeks, thoroughly watering them, or soaking in a bucket has kept them alive. Flowers died, but inactive buds on stem starting to show promise of new flowering. I agree, many like aspects to bonsai tending. You have some beautiful orchids there in video.

Delighted to discover your channel that addresses my two loves: bonsai and orchids. 1/ please advise how to improve the varying needle lengths on my Japanese black pines, probably caused by not pruning each in one shot. 2/what caused Japanese maple leaves to turn brown, too much water or sun? 3/where to find the fresh moss for orchids, didn‘t see them in local nurseries.

Please check my old video to get more: kzitem.info/news/bejne/tqiGyKZobKp9pKg 1. Cut all the candles to about the same length at one time….Needles will become more uniform with each cutting. 2. Since you ask the question during hot summer days…likely dried out or sunburn. Cut back branches to shape, pull off all the remaining leaves, and water the root ball a lot, sitting in a tube if necessary…Stay tuned…I will do a video on keeping your bonsai alive during hot summer heat. 3. I had a couple of videos on moss: kzitem.info/news/bejne/uml71JiJs6dnqmU Gather them from anywhere, dry then out in the shade, and pulverize before spreading…keep the root ball wet at all times. Have fun!

The best way to get orchids, especially phals to rebloom is to give them a period of cooler temperatures. But for more details defo check out Miss Orchid Girl channel on KZitem. She has loads of information about all types of orchids on her channel and has helped me qith the few phalanopsis and my cymbidium orchid
