Bleach water works good on okraseeds overnight.I'm sure it would work on these as well.

Collect in late summer. Remove berry pulp, clean seeds. Then they like about 45 days warm and damp, then 60+ days cool damp. Then I sow in spring and get nearly 100% germination. I put the seeds in ziplocks with damp sand/peat moss mixture then do room temp 45 days then refrigerator for the rest of winter. They start germinating in the refrigerator then it's just a matter of carefully getting them into trays.

Can I do this in the spring? If I have seeds now, should I wait till fall?

The seeds can be stratified by simulating winter conditions having the seeds stay in the fridge for around 90 days. Requires cold and some moisture. A sealable container with wet sand, or peat, sphagnum moss, coconut coir, vermiculite... There are videos on this as well. I am trying to start all kinds of seeds this summer, most need this treatment. I think that I will try to just do them all over the winter as well, and going forward. Having space in the fridge is becoming an issue, and I'm constantly checking for mold, etc. I think that the over-winter technique in the trays, which you can just set and leave until Spring, will be the better way to go. But I couldn't help myself and so I'm trying to grow 20 different types of trees from seed this summer.

can you grow them in a green house
@SeedGreed

Yes, but if you live in a cold climate I would recommend planting them outdoors, they may not flower in a greenhouse as they require a dormant period before flowering

@@SeedGreed How long does it take from planting the seeds to germination? I'll be attempting to grow them indoors at first in Florida
@SeedGreed

@@historyandhorseplaying7374 it takes several months for the stratification (in your case in the fridge), then once you bring them out and put them in the warm temps they should take a few weeks to come up. I did get a low germination percentage so I would sow much more seed than you want plants

@@SeedGreed Uh oh, I've already had them in the cup of water for two weeks now! I gathered these back home in West Virginia back in September or October, and brought them down with me to Florida. I was about to plant them in the cells, do I still need to do the stratification?

@@historyandhorseplaying7374 since the seeds are adapted to the cold climate in WV they will need to sense that they have gone through winter before they’ll decide to sprout. If they were kept outside over the winter they should sprout but if you kept them indoors I doubt you will get any germination without stratification. This is a protective measure to make sure they don’t sprout in the fall and get killed by frost
