great advice. You was talking about seeds washing into street from watering. Got a easy fix for you... When you are raking, you want to rake parallel to the road.. this is why farmers don't plant up and down hills, they plant sideways on hills so water running down don't cause a wash out.. the water will stay in the valleys.. Since you are planting grass you want those seeds to get caught just like hunting for gold... it will get hung up in the ripples.

Only thing i did off the reservation was cook the weed seeds in the soil by covering it with a 4mil clear plastic a whole month in the hot summer before seeding in september. The results were phenominal. Very uniform tttf with no weeds with a well timed tenacity app.

The Lawn Care Nut , LCN, in one of your videos you had a grass plug puller. It pulled out square plugs and you transplanted them into different spots in our yard. Where can I find one? I can only find a small round one, it's just a tube! And the grass plugs are much smaller. I'm pretty sure it's designed to dig holes for bulbs, but they also try to pass it off as a grass plug puller. Please send me a link (or send me your grass plugger) Thank you! P.S. Going to throw down some milorganite! But first I will be measuring my lawn to get some more accurate numbers and better results. Thanks for all the videos Justin

cool video Alan, can't wait to see the results. Back in the 90s I was living in Dubai where I worked, the lawn guy came over to our yard where I lived in a company owned house to lay some grass seed, temperatures were like 140 in the shade which made me laugh as I thought the seed would never germinate, two weeks later he was mowing the lawn!!! I wish I knew what seed he used as it was amazing.

Hi Lawn Care Nut, I am going to reseed pretty soon, so I hope you can help me with these questions. Thanks in advance. 1. My weed treatment company accidentally spray my lawn to be reseed with preemergent a couple weeks ago. I heard that breaking up the soil and mix up some new top soil will destroy the chemical barrier, is that true? If it is, can I just rake (about 1-2 inch of the top soil) and mix with some top soil (1/4 - 1/2 inch)? 2. I see you are using Milogranite. Can I just use the starter fertilizer? Or should I use both?

I live in SW Florida and have a St. Augustine lawn. I purchased the home a few years ago and I live on the intercoastal waterway. I added an irrigation system in Feb. 2019. Before then I had really thin lawn with many bare spots. Because I cannot locate St. Augustine lawn seed, I over seeded it with some hot weather seed for Florida. The seed germinated and looked great for a while but seemed die off after a number of months and weeds took over (dollar weed?). I water twice a week for about 15-20 minutes per zone. The lawn clearly is improving but very slowly. What seed do you recommend that I use to over seed and how often do I over seed? I seem to get bare spots under my Live Oak tree, is there a way to prevent that from occurring? thanks, Paul

I've never choked a lawn yet but I have choked up a lawn mower with grass being too thick. I use a rotary spreader for fertilizing most of the time unless it gas an herbicide in it in which case I use a drop spreader so I don't hit plants and shrubbery with herbicide. I always seed with a drop spreader. It's still the best way to obtain the most even coverage and coverage exactly where you want it.

Allyn, is the more is better seed method always the way to go? I have been told too much seed can be counter productive as they have to fight for moisture. I have 2 acres of cool grass turf on our 3 acre piece and land so its about impossible to water as much as I would like. Actually, at certain times of the year it is totally impossible. And seed is not exactly cheap in my opinion. At $2.50 a pound when I am overseeding my seed bill is $200 to $300 ! I am finally starting to win but anticipate that I will probably always fall aerate and overseed.

I think one of my problems is the birds are eating the seeds. I had one 4x3 foot problem area and I threw a piece of sod down and that took care of it. But the apron part of my lawn is about 1 foot wide x 20 feet long and it's very patchy. I laid top soil then threw some scotts grass seed and lawn starter then another thin layer of top soil. And I've been watering it every day by hand and nothing. I'm growing some starter "plugs" in a plastic divided container and put my fake owl by it. I'm also going to try to seed one more time in the area and put a straw blanket over it. Other than that one problem area the lawn looks absolutely fantastic.

Hi Alan, I live in Long Island New York. I have a half an acre lawn. My biggest concern is giving the lawn a jumpstart. Explained to me to use nitrogen as a form of jumpstart the lawn, also use it sparingly with a lot of water and do seeding maybe two weeks later is that the rule of thumb.
