I read or heard that if you cut lilies for bouquets they will not come back the next year. Another video said to only take 1/4 of the stem . Your lily video is excellent...very detailed information. You obviously plan out carefully what you will be presenting. Many flower growers just jump out into the garden and talk on and on about irrelevant stuff, and leave out important details like planting depth and space between bulbs.

💕 Mine are still pretty small 4-6 inches. It’s my first summer trying them out. I hope I get a lily to actually appear at some point. 🤣 I planted stargazers. Thanks for the great video!

I love lilies cause they are very forgiving and bloom wherever they are planted. I have some of those varieties plus a dark purple one. 💚💚😃

Hi Danielle - a very timely video for me. I've never grown lilies before but have just ordered some bulbs and am hugely excited to grow them. Btw - I must thank you for your prayers for my little granddaughter Madeline - she came home from the hospital yesterday and I had a wonderful video call with my son and little Madeline in Sydney. x.

I have always loved lilies! Have grown them successfully for the last 8 years in the PNW (Zone 8). But this year, mine got hit with red lily beetle infestation that decimated most of my lilies! By the time I treated them with Systemic pest control, they ate through all the buds.

You have to be vigilant and check your lilies regularly. Last year I had no lily beetles but this year they’ve been everywhere and decimated a lot of my lilies before I became aware of them

I also have the red lily beetles that attack my lilies! I prefer use only natural products, no chemicals. I don’t want to hurt the pollinators! I have used diatomaceous earth, and also coffee grounds. The trick is to reapply after every rainfall. My lilies have multiplied, especially the asiatics, and I have found if they become crowded it’s hard to see the red lily beetles. I check my lilies each time I go out to my beds, sometimes three times a day. This ear has been terrible for the beetles! They have also been in my vegetable garden! It’s been a hard battle this year, but I still had plenty of beautiful lilies!

What happens to the bulb if you cut down the whole stem before it dies back? Rabbits came through. Does the bulb die or just comes back weaker the following year?

Thank you! Perfect timing, first time I planted lilies and wasn't sure how much to cut back now that the blooms are pretty much done. Question, I planted some in very large containers with annuals that will soon take over, can I leave them there to overwinter? I garden in the Hudson Valley, a questionable zone 6a (feels like zone 5 in the middle of winter 😊) Thank you again! Love your videos

Hi Gigi! Yes they should be fine in a container overwinter in your zone. The bigger and thicker walled the pot the better. If the pot in small you can also sink the pot into the ground for extra protection overwinter.

Thank you Danielle for this refresher on Lilies. One of my favourites and as such I have quite the collection! I struggle with rabbits eating them as they come up and then once protected from being chomped down, they get destroyed by lily beetles!!! Any ideas on how to get rid of these pests (I go around and pick off as many of them as I can)?

How late can you plant asiatic/oriental/LA/OT lily bulbs for cut flower production in Zone 6A? Are there day-length neutral varieties? Thanks!

I’m really confused by the tulips here.. is this typical for a northern climate? I’m in zone 8a, and even the late season varieties don’t go past May. Perhaps your late season tulips finish out a month later than they do here. If so you’re lucky! But then again things do start blooming in early February here 😅

I planted many oriental lily bulbs about 4 weeks ago. The stems emerged with foliage. However, all the foliage has been eaten by rabbits and I only see the naked stalks. The rabbits have also stripped foliage from young echinacea plants, leaving stem and flower heads behind. Can you please suggest how to deter rabbits from the garden in a future episode. I am in Zone 6b - Allentown, PA.

The best liquid repellent against deer /rabbits is Liquid Fence. Lowe's carries it best price. Buy in ready to use gallon sprayers or purchase the liquid concentrate and mix yourself in large sprayer. I spray in late evening and always again after any rain... works well as long as you keep up!

Hi Becky! Try planting allysum around the lilies. My mom has good luck with surrounding glass and allysum. The bunnies don't like the smell, and seem to stay away.
