Theres this misconception about damaging your nails when you wear gel polish. Ive been a nail tech for 14 months now, i still consider myself a beginner but Ive been wearing gel for a year and its def not true that your nails get damaged when you wear gel. Having hard gel has always hurt my nails because they file my natural nail way too thin when I get a fill, have I just been going to bad nail techs? Or is there something about the filing that matters?
@raivo3926
6 ай бұрын
@@janedoe12munchkin filing does matter since it takes off the natural 'gloss' from the natural nail and makes it more adhesive to the material. The thing is, that nail tech generally should not file off *all* the material but rather leave at least a bit of it. It does not make the next gel correction feel worse or anything. However, if you visit a new tech they might take it off fully because they are not familiar with the material and don't know if it will work well with theirs. Is it harmful to take it off constantly? Of course it is, since it 'merges' with upper nail layers, and while removing it nail layers are removed too. But with right amount and architecture of material your nails should feel much, much better with gel. If the gel burns while curing in lamp, it can be anything from the material itself to your nails being too thin or your higher sensivity in general. Does not always mean the material is bad though, gels are just mostly like this sadly

I live in the US and in California and getting a fill/ a full set every two weeks is ridiculously expensive. The best way I learned to strengthen my nails is 1) get a top coat with vitamin E, and apply a few coats a couple times a week. 2) apply that liberally maybe two to three coats each time. 3) file them every time they are uneven or else you WILL pick at them, if you're a picker.

My nails naturally grow fast and are quite strong (at least compared to my family who mostly have slow growing flimsy/brittle nails) but usually once they get to be about 5mm long then they will break where they chip on the side/edge. What helped me grow my nails without any chipping or breaking was wearing base coat nail polish, colour nail polish and top coat etc. Basically aiming to have like 3 or more layers of nail polish. It’s a lot of maintenance effort but it was easy and more feasible for me to do in comparison to getting my nails professionally done and allowed me to grow my nails to quite a bit over 1cm long with no breaks. Thought I might offer the alternative here in the comments. I think the general idea is to give the nails extra support. When nails are wet (like after washing dishes or taking showers) they are a lot more fragile, wearing gloves and having reinforced strength with whichever method suits you can make a huge difference

What made my nails long and strong is REGULAR POLISH. Once it began to fade after a week or so, don’t redo them completely, just add another coat on top and clear coat. Regular nail polish protects the nails. Use gels only occasionally. I let the thin ends break naturally and started over into thick nails with polish. Learned on KZitem years ago and it works.

Me too. I've noticed that the only way my nails grow is underneath acrylic nails, but I hate acrylic. So they just keep breaking😂

You make everything you do look so easy! I’ve been a nail tech for 30 yrs and still have so much trouble w the gel extensions/poyl gel! It takes a lot of practice. I mainly just use dip. So, trying to get it right ❤😂

My natural nails are brittle and break at any point they can. So I’ve been using builder gel for support and structure. Then I just use any gel color and my nails have grown so long since then. I love this!❤

You should try The Luminary Nail System. My nails use to break like crazy but a couple of years ago I found this product and I can grow my nails as long as I want. It's a multiplex gel but after curing its tougher than acrylic plus my nails stay healthy! I tell everybody about this product because it is actually amazing 💙

My suggestion is to use a glass nail file on your natural nails.They are way more gentle ive been using them for a year now and my nails have grown a lot without breaking.You can also use oils like jojoba oil,olive oil or castor oil on a daily basis ❤

@@jenpierce2385 some other tips are to use nail hardeners/strengtheners (only if you have very brittle nails), exposing them to water as little as possible, and not using your nails as tools. I find that gel only weakens my natural nails, so I prefer to wear regular nail polish, but do you! Good luck!!

If u don't wanna go to salon and do gel then just get the transparent coat and apply 3 layers then u can add nail polish also and buy any cutical oil and apply it twice a week...ur natural nails will become thicker, longer in no time...that's what I do and now I can have any designs I want on my all natural nails
