You asked "Why would you grow Passion Fruit if you don't like eating them?" Well...I just love the flowers and have had the white and purple Caerulea for years and had a purple one which eventually gave up flowering for me and now I thought I'd try the Colombia one you've shown how to plant up, Edulis. Thanks for your totally uncomplicated guide. Looks simple enough so I've had a go but my fruit wasn't as elderly and wrinkled as yours so if I'm unlucky I'll know what to do next time. Great video, thanks a lot, Steve, Manchester UK.

I'm so happy to see my passion fruit seeds finally germinate today! 😬😍 1st time I put them in a small container with wet tissue inside the bottom and had covered it but it grew fungus n those seeds died eventually. This time I placed the seeds in a transparent container with tiny wet gravel inside. I spread out the seeds inside and covered it and put it at kitchen cabinet. Some days I also exposed the covered container under the sun for around 2-3 hrs. And finally! I see them sprout today! I'm so happy 😬😊

There are many reasons you would grow a plant that you wouldn't want to eat did you know people grow houseplants that they can't eat LOL but seriously the passion fruit Vine has a absolutely beautiful alien-like flower that a lot of people enjoy. For instance there is a species of bush bean that I grow every year because for 1 I like the way it looks it has beautiful tiny flowers that I enjoy and the beans are beautiful vibrant purple with some striping of dark green and yellow the plant in itself really compliments my garden and I like the way it looks beans also add nitrogen to the soil even more so when they're allowed to decompose naturally and break down in the soil this is why I grow them every year however I rarely eat them

Let’s wrap things in plastic that absolutely don’t need to be wrapped such as small fruit like passionfruit and lemons! Next up, let’s wrap grapes! Yes, that’s it. Now it’s happy. No sadness there when it makes its way to the landfill forever or the ocean where it will likely end up in the intestines of a sea turtle or other animal. No sadness at all.

The dark purple or black passionfruits (Passiflora edulis) tend to be the more tropical climate varieties and will most likely fail in England, and even the South Island of New Zealand, unless you have a greenhouse or sunny conservatory room or enclosed sunny porch. However some varieties which can tolerate far more cold in Winter are available. Commonly known as "Banana Passionfruit" (there's over 60 slightly different species) they are usually yellow in colour and the fruit is more oval in shape. Also identifiable as the leaves of the cold tolerant types are tiny whereas the leaves of the tropical type are much larger. Because they have the potential to become a weed in some native bush areas, so here in NZ the Government forbids their public sale. This means that here in the cooler climates like the South Island, the only plants (or fruits) available for sale are the purple tropical kind, which almost always die in Winter, no matter how much care they are given (unless you have a greenhouse or enclosed conservatory, or live right near the seaside) . Remember that half the politicians come from the Northern half of the North Island, an area which gets far milder Winters, so laws are passed to suit the majority, with 3/4 of NZ's population being in the warmer North Island, those of us that live in the South often get the short end of the stick regarding rules and laws.
@mt9799
5 жыл бұрын
I thought the purple ones are the only ones that have a chance in the cold
@KiwiCatherineJemma
5 жыл бұрын
@@mt9799 Not in my experience. That said, there might indeed be "some" purple varieties out there that are more cold tolerant. Here in Canterbury, South Island, New Zealand, the purple passionfruit plants that are sold by major chain stores (who import their stock from North Island based wholesale growers) really struggle to stay alive here. "Some" gardeners have succeeded with them, but a sheltered and sunny North facing garden position is important (obviously a full sized greenhouse is preferable). Recently I obtained some seed of the more cold tolerant "Banana Passionfruit" and have planted them but no seedlings have sprouted yet. Looking forward to warmer Spring weather coming soon ! cheerio and good luck with your own plant growing endeavours.
