The problem is the bud. If it sticks to the fruit when it is very young starting to develop, it causes a mold spot to form where it attaches to the tomato. In dryer weather it dries and falls off easily before the mold can start. But if it rains to much, the bud sticks to the newly forming tomato and it causes a mold to start. If you pick the bud off when the fruit is just forming, seeable, it will reduce and even stop most end rot. But the bud hangs on and doesn't want to fall off, a lot of rain or dew will stick it to the newly forming fruit. I have done this for years and it works, but you haft to watch every bud and keep up when the fruit is forming and that is quite a task, especially if it rains a lot.

Absolutely love the new endeavor on here. I'm going to try and get consistency in my own. I use a very weak potassium permanganate solution in the starting trays, when I water. The addition of potassium and magnesium right off the bat will help with water nutrient uptake later. About the only type I've ever had BER trouble with is San Marzano.

Do we just grind the eggs shells as is or should we prepare the shells by baking them first?
