I enjoyed your video. I started removing suckers this summer but I still let them get a bit out of control, but I also had my best year of tomatoes since starting our veggie gardening in 2009.

Excellent video direct, specific, and brief. I appreciate your detail in the tie technique and specific examples of the best materials to use to stake tomatoes! Is it bad to use jute to stake tomatoes ?

Put your thumb at it's base and push it down to the ground. It should separate cleanly. That sucker will start a new plant no waiting. All those leaves that touch the ground I cut them off. Prevents fungus.

How do you put in such large stakes without damaging the plant?
@marylengyel4483
4 жыл бұрын
put the stakes in when you're putting in the plants, so the roots won't be spread out yet. Also, I use T-posts, so I don't ever have them snap or bend. But that is much easier when you have a driver for installation, and a jack for removal.

What do you mean by make a loop before tying it to the stake?
@johnthomas137
3 жыл бұрын
If you check at 2:01 in the video you can see a better image of the loop. You wrap around the stem once then tie the loose cloth to the stake.

What if you tie the suckers so they are supported?
@ronathey5287

The removal of the suckers will allow your plant 2 grow stronger. & you can plant the suckers 2 grow a nother plant.

@@ronathey5287 my thought exactly. Better harvest by removing suckers. Suckers make more plants so you can further increase your yield.
