One of the best things about relief printmaking is that you don't need a lot of materials or space to print your image. This tutorial goes through my printing process, including materials, technique, and cleanup. I don't use any hazardous solvents, and the process is quick and straightforward.
Materials:
-carved woodcut or linocut
-rubber mat or kitchen cupboard liner
-paper (If I'm painting my finished prints I use watercolor paper, otherwise I use drawing paper, but I suggest experimenting with various types until you find what works best for you. Thinner paper is easier to print but might tear, whereas thicker paper is more durable but harder to get a good image transfer.)
-wooden spoon
-relief ink (I prefer oil based)
-relief ink modifier (This depends on the ink you use. Your local art store employee or Google should be able to help you determine this.)
-glass (ceramic tile or plexiglass can be substituted)
-putty knife
-brayer (AKA rubber ink roller)
-wax paper
-masking tape
-paper towels
-scrap printer paper
-glass cleaner
