Okay great! I live & work in Texas now, but I'm orginally from the SF Bay Area as well. I wanted to harvest some sea veggies when I get a chance to go back home & visit. I was very concern if that was a safe thing to do or not, due to all the bad press I've been hearing about with the pacific waters after the disaster in Japan. Thanks for the heads up John, that makes me feel much better. You always do an awesome job man! & you make me miss home alot when I see places that I know exactly where

Great video! Yes F&G does allow up to ten pounds of wet seaweed a day- with a sport fishing license. The Bull Kelp bobbing out there in the water is regulated differently than the intertidal along the rocks you are walking on and best to not harvest that unless you know you are allowed. Wonderful foraging video!

Nice, maybe you could take us home with you and let us watch what you did next with all those sea veggies. I'm wondering if the Maine coast sea vegetables are the same or similar. I've been wanting to do this. I like this ocean foraging video, thanks John.

Totally agree with you and I would not trust the FDA or USDA either. I would abstain rather than chance it. Not worth it to me. I'll stick to my garden.

Great guide. Any seaweed to avoid? (Tips for the untrained eye). Shell beach is just about the closest beach for myself.

Hey John, do you think the (west coast) pacific oceans water might be contaminated due to the Fukushima radiation plant/earth quake in Japan? I was just thinking because of the recent breaking news on the yellow fin tuna, they found high radiation levels in them. And, kelp, seaweed, or things from the O-P might not be safe to eat. Just wanted to hear your take or expert advice on the subject? Big fan & love all your videos, Thanks. Ron

I love seaweed salad. I don't know what kind of seaweed it is, its kind of like little noodles. I would like to get some of that and grow it in like an aquaponics system or something.

I want some seaweed to feed to my plants but im in south jersey and I think the seaweed in the beach is artificial seaweed and not wild seaweed because it has no smell to it at all and doesn't look real. sad.
