It's hard to be small & tired. Sometimes you need a full-body hug. Edit: I do believe I made this comment the day or night before I gave birth to my daughter. Interesting thing about her is that she HATES being swaddled. HATES it. She'll pull her arms out as soon as she possibly can. I should see if she likes a swaddleini.

All throughout history many people have swaddled their babies. It helps them feel safe and cuddled sort of like when they were in the womb. It’s very important for parents to hold their babies themselves but they need breaks to eat, do dishes, clean, etc. Some babies might even calm down faster when swaddled than when just held. They don’t have control of their movements so it can be scary for them if part of their body suddenly moves. It could possibly feel liked they are going to fall too.

I have a small size I use while watching vids in the evenings & a full size I use in bed. I can't tell you how comforting it is ~ wishing I could just buy you one as I know the feeling, after the crazy day & every one asked too much... I'm retired now but I was a therapist & finding it difficult to shut my brain down. I realized I needed a routine to tell my brain the day was over. I'd get home, pick out my clothes for the next day ~ like a warrior preparing for tomorrow's battle, get a shower, use some great scented lotion ~signaling all my senses that my evening could begin. If I had to go to a function, the line remained. Now I do all that & wrap me in my blankie. LOL. It still works. Stop harassing the mother because you have no concept of just how long people have been swaddling babies. Their arms are NOT restricted in moving, they can move their arms all the way to their faces. The only thing the swaddlini does is prevent them from scratching or hitting themselves and prevent them from waking themselves up constantly.

Ok, this is for all those saying “what kind of mama doesn’t pick up her baby and hug it every time she cries? Poor, lost, hot, unloved, unwanted baby!” Omg! 😂😂😂 Just so you know, that is an easy way to fall into a very bad habit. When I would pick up my twins, if they continued to cry (which they usually did) they needed a diaper change, feeding etc. So, after taking care of that, they’d usually fall right asleep, and THEN they’d probably wake back up as soon as I tried to put them in their car seat, carrier, bassinet etc. The best case scenario is to do exactly what this Momma did…get them to sleep already in their little bed, after a soft, warm swaddle. (If they DIDN’T fall asleep right away, it was probably because their needs weren’t met -changing, feeding etc. So take care of those things and try it again.) Always worked like a charm! Picking them up every time they cry…in what world does a momma have time to do this, especially since it usually never works, anyway? Ok, I’m done. Thank you!

@kookoothebirdgirl1

@@lostineggsaisle actually, no, I’m not a fan of letting babies cry it out. I was always trying to figure out what they needed at the time, even holding and rocking them for hours. I had twins that took turns waking up and crying even though I tried everything to settle them back down. Everyone kept telling me to “Ferberize” them until they learn to self-sooth. (Ferberize was Dr Ferber’s method that was to let them cry it out starting with one minute and making it longer and longer every time until eventually they just fall right asleep after putting them down.) it was SO painful to listen to one or both of them crying in the other room! I started crying myself! But after finally breaking down and trying this method when they were about 3 months old (I was crazy from sleep deprivation, so I was willing to try anything!) and after only ONE night of letting them cry for about 20 minutes-yes, it was HELL for me-they started falling asleep right after getting put down in their cribs! I was in HEAVEN! I actually got 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep! So even though I’m not a fan of “Ferberize-ing” it was the only thing that actually worked for me! And it was only hard for ONE night! You ladies with singletons don’t KNOW how easy you have it, in comparison to having to do EVERYTHING twice! I hope you all find something that works for you and your baby! ❤️🙏❤️🫶

I agree with you 💯- many of them aren’t parents at all or it was 50 years ago, and they just don’t know that technique… - but they still think that they know everything, although they are so uninformed/missinformed!! But swaddling is such an old and so very proved technique - mothers use it since thousands of years, and it’s so very necessary to calm down tiered and overwhelmed/overstimulated babies!! Every mum who has ever tried it will agree…

So, as a new mum in the 80s, I still followed the tradition of wrapping/snuggling baby in a light shawl/blanket..as time passed, it was shock 😱 horror, a big No, baby will over heat, feel restricted, become anxious etc. Now it's back to as it was through time...but with a modern version of a shawl, to keep baby feeling secure and safe as they were in the womb..

There are things like receiving blankets now! Also a thing called muslin swaddles. I’m going to be a new mom to a boy and even before I became a mom I saw a lot of craze with muslin swaddles and how amazing and versatile they are. You can use them to wrap baby up, use them as burp cloths, as car seat covers, a simple blanket to put on the floor etc. The fabric is VERY lightweight, stretchy, soft, big, etc. I don’t think muslin swaddles became as popular as they did in the last 10-20 years or so. I’ve definitely seen an increase in the muslin trend in the past few years though. Isn’t it crazy how many things change?
