(Back Foot Pivot Drill) Great drill and analysis, Ryan. I will add/ask that this drill is a lot easier to perform with a TSP; (I own one, ftr) especially for those learning the situation via this drill; as it has the ball height "fixed." However, when the ball is hit deep AND flat, with "a low bounce" this becomes significantly harder to perform and execute (in practice) at the advance level for players like myself. I find (probably at a subconscious level, I'd have to look at tape of myself) that 2 things can occur... 1) You are forced to take it early (half volley, a-la-federer) which you would be leaning into the court. OR 2) You back foot pivot and need to apply a windshield style type FH to generate spin so it won't airmail to the back fence. I'm guessing your recommendation would be to lower the TSP all the way down and practice the drill that way and maybe get someone to drill balls hard and low close to the baseline. The TSP won't go down to a shin/ankle height (especially if you're 6"1) but I guess live drills are the answer here.

This looks great but I'm left handed and I don't know how to do this from the opposite side of things. In my head, it makes sense for us to just reverse everything but when I have a racket in my hand, well thats a different story😅

Pu the video up in your tv (screen cast it) and then shadow with me. I’ll be your mirror image.

On that second footwork pattern are you transferring weight from the right side to the left as you hit? Or are you just driving off the right leg only? Just curious as I see players often transfer from one side of the body to the other in some situations when hitting open stance. Thanks for the video!!

I tried this drill in the house, and I almost ran through the wall and ended up on neighbors couch! Hahe just joking Coach, I am going to work on the drills later today if it doesn’t rain. Great job on the video Coach.

How often should you take the first step back after the serve, if you're not serving and volleying?

Great question. If you really hurt your opponent with your serve and get them in a ton of trouble, then no need to move back. Any other type of serve you should move back like JJ did.
