Fr. Jonathan, your just great. Your sermons are superb. I am miles away from you but love to hear your sermons. They are so app in our daily life. Your way of teaching the gospel n making your parishioners come closer to God, is too good. God bless you abundantly.

Father, you remind me of Venerable Fulton Sheen who spoke with such tremendous conviction and wisdom. I grew up listening to him at home in upstate NY. He was the Bishop of our Diocese for many years. I had the privilege of meeting him in 1976. God bless you!

Thank you Father, take comfort that your fantastic sermons have a very long reach. I live in Scotland and it saddens me that for the most part I have to seek for good sermons and advice from so far away. We in Scotland are still suffering the loss of daily Mass, and although they plan on bringing back some Masses we need to book a ticket for a Mass and not more than one a week. Please pray for us Father, I am a wife and mother of 10 children. We pray for our church as she goes through her passion. God bless and Our Holy Mother protect and guide you.

Sophie Hendry, if you love the Traditional Latin Mass, or if you've never seen it but are interested, check out Regina Caeli parish in Houston, Texas. They're also on Facebook. Mass everyday with a High Mass on Sunday morning. Hang in there. Oremus!

Once you stop feeding the birds, they leave to find food somewhere else!!!! Thank you, Fr. Meyer for a great visual Homily.

AH-mazing analogy in this Homily, you know what else happens when you feed the birds? You get a LOT of bird crap left behind, same thing happens when we feed our "bird" habits, you never feel good about yourself, your joy is stolen, and you feel like a failure. The BIG BIRD in my life is sticking with daily exercise BUT I have found a way to shoo this bird away, by taking my Rosary beads out with me and meditating on it while I walk and enjoying the real birds which I dearly love.

I don't know if daily exercise could be construed as a bird. You have to take care of your body, and in this day and age of sedentary lifestyles and easy food we accept it as a norm and over relax. Out bodies are made to move and work. Desk jobs are not the best in long duration. Anyway good on you on bringing the two together, walking and praying.

Facebook is my bird. Down to 2 times a week for no more that an hour. Thank you my Lord for showing me that this addiction was in the way of my being in a closer union with you. God bless you Fr. Meyer, and thank you for this awesome homily.

Thank you Fr. Meyer. From one of your videos you said "Change your habits, change your life" I started with our cable, got rid of it. It took sometime to get use without cable. We're so happy we did. What a big difference. We only watch news from time to time. And also from one of your videos you said: "Stop watching 24 hour news, believe me if there is something very important or some emergency, you will know about it." Also Father, about a month or so ago, I stumbled on one of Fr. Donald Calloway's videos, he mentioned you in one of his talks. He said, and I am paraphrasing here: "I met this priest in Indiana, Fr. Jonathan Meyer, a no nonsense priest and tell it like it is". Fr. Calloway talked about a poster that you showed him , a photo of you holding a cross and a rosary, and you have sunglasses on, and on the poster says: "Catholic Church reloaded" Hope you will have the chance to share the poster here one of these days. God Bless you Fr. Meyer

This is a good homily/sermon! Name the birds and taking away their houses that you supply is a good first few steps.--this is just the start of the journey though. To truly understand how the birds are able to take the seed of Christ, the joy away, one has to look at the "what" and how that "what" was planted in your heart, mind, soul from your past experiences. Food, alcohol, drugs, porn, sex, Netflix, social media addictions/sin are signs or symptoms of a deep pain, hurt, wound that one is trying to either numb or ignore on a subconscious or not completely aware level. It is by addressing those issues with God that true healing can occur. The Church needs to grow in understanding about trauma and its affects on the human person and how the subconscious mind is formed. Awareness of self and understanding how our subconscious mind was formed which affects our behaviour is the hammer to start breaking down the walls of our prisons. We have been formed by our circumstances that are not our fault. But there comes a day when we need to recognize our destructive behaviours, identify what has happened to that shaped our thoughts and behaviours, choose to take responsibility of shedding the old to become the new creation God has intended us to be.

@Michelle Michelle Hello sister in Christ! This is knowledge that has come to me through my fresh personal experience and have observed in several others' lives as well. Have you heard of The Woman's School, founded by January Donovan (Catholic)? It is pretty awesome and it talks about how our experiences wire certain beliefs and behaviors in our brains. I highly recommend it.

@Michelle Michelle I do agree with what you said about frequent Reconciliation, daily Mass, and reading scripture. I received the an Anointing of the Sick. Emotional wounds/illness are just as real as the physical wounds/illnesses, they are just hidden within our hearts, minds, and souls. One needs the graces that we can receive through the sacraments of the Church for strength to soldier through the pain. Just like a physical illness/wound needs medical attention, an emotional/mental wound/illness needs proper professional help to promote healing and uncover the root cause.

Fr Meyer took 5 minutes, 40 seconds to get to the point of what his homily was about. He spent 5 minutes and change singing songs and giving examples of songs. I would be curious to see how his homiletics teacher would respond.

I have been praying for the birds in my life in my case they are (people). However, the birds have to want to be helped by God because God gives us free will. He will not impose on the birds that don’t want help.
