In this interview with Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, we discuss how to heal your gut and the importance of fiber for the body’s overall health. You see, although we all have trillions of microbes in our body, our modern lifestyle has been incredibly destructive to them. Knowing how to heal yourself can not only restore digestion, it can also have a number of positive effects throughout the body.
If you have any digestive symptoms, it’s a clear sign that you have damage to your gut. On the other hand, things that may not automatically be connected to gut health can also indicate damage. Brain fog, fatigue, and eczema are all examples of symptoms that arise from a damaged gut.
There are many different ways that people develop a damaged gut, including difficult emotions, antibiotics, and other harmful chemicals. Learning how to heal your gut means embracing the importance of fiber.
The reason why fiber is so special is because it arrives in your colon untouched and is delivered to your microbes there. Your microbes consume the fiber and they convert it into short chain fatty acids, which help to do things like reverse leaky gut, enhance healthy microbes, and suppress the harmful ones.
Unfortunately, we don’t eat nearly enough fiber on a daily basis. We also don’t eat nearly enough of a diversity of plants. Each plant has a different kind of fiber, which each type of microbe relies upon to sustain it.
The importance of fiber is that it fuels the kingdom of microbes that we depend upon for our health. In order to learn how to heal your gut, you need to take care of your microbes. The best way to do that is through a diet that is full of plants and full of fiber.
