This is what I do to put my newborn to sleep at night and it seems to work. The steps are : 1. Start feeding from 6.30am to 7am 2. Ensure baby gets his feeds every 2 to 3 hrs even if baby is breastfed ie don't let baby sleep for too long in the day. 4. Play with the baby in the afternoon 5. Warm bath at 9pm.By this time my baby will be yawning and trying to fight off sleep in his tub. He gets more relaxed by the time the bath ends. 6. Dress baby up in a dimly lit room, massage with oil and pack him with cuddle and kisses. I will not do much talking but lots of kisses and rubs. 7. Feed him well ( I would do breast and bottle ). At the end of step 7, he is already very very sleepy and would usually fall into a deep sleep with almost no fuss. He will then sleep until midnight or 1am. He wakes up every few hours for short feeds. I then ensure the next day starts w a good feed at 6.30 to 7 am and repeat the process. Good luck 💕

Hi, I am from the nb class, and nice to see the real-life demonstration. But as is shown in this video, the baby is still very wide awake. I learned the 45 min wake time window (and for my first son, when he turned 4 months and finally settled with a good routine, the wake time mattered a lot to us). But the nb sometimes seems so awake at the end of the window. It seems never possible by putting him to sleep through the PUPD at the end of the 45-60 mins. I wonder if you can explain a little more on the nb wake time and if we should continue to honor the wake time if the baby seems so awake.

Have you seen this work for high needs/ spirited babies? 6 week old has zero chill, even if not overtired he will fight naps to no end. so I am afraid to try this and risk him getting overtired which will then make him inconsolable 😵💫

Yes! These tips/strategies are helpful for all types of newborns, no matter how spirited they may seem! Every newborn needs and craves sleep, they just need help getting there, and consistency is key!

My little one is 7 weeks old now, and I love your account! We’re actually on night 8 of your toddler program with our 2 year old, and we’ve been so impressed with his progress. I would love for you to do a video on products like the halo swaddle vs a sleep sack! We use the halo swaddle right now, but I sometimes wonder if a sleep sack would be better.

Hey Sarah! Thanks for sharing! We will take note of that video idea! Right now a swaddle is perfect! A lot of swaddles just come down to personal preference (for parents and baby.)

When I put my 3 week old down for a nap in the crib, she will lay awake for an hour without crying or fussing. I then put her in my baby carrier, and she falls asleep instantly. Any advice for getting her to fall asleep in the crib?

Hey! Newborn sleep is a total roller coaster but you are doing a great job! At this age, you will do all the things to help your little one get to sleep! It's 100% normal that baby would prefer YOU to hold them for sleep rather than laying down. I would try a few things: Place the baby's swaddle inside your shirt for a few minutes while you're holding her in an attempt to get your smells and scent onto the swaddle. You can also lay a shirt you've been wearing on the bassinet, and when you get baby to sleep and transfer to the bassinet, remove the t-shirt so the smell remains. At this age you will provide ALL the help to get little one to sleep. There is no expectation that baby will fall asleep or connect sleep cycles on their own. You may need to be there the moment he tries to wake up. I know this time is just so hard. I would also encourage you to try out different swaddles for her as every baby has a different preference! I highly recommend our Newborn Course to help you lay the solid foundations of sleep for your little one! littlezsleep.com/newborn

A few tips that helped us 1) Ensure to place baby down feet touching first, then bum, then head. 2) Sleep with the sheet that covers the bassinet for a few nights so it smells like you. 3) Place the sheet in the dryer before placing baby down so it's warm. 4) Give baby some time to fuss but not cry in the bassinet while patting, shushing, and otherwise soothing but without picking them up. Best of luck!

@@fdart5854 I’m going to try your #1! When I put my babe down her arms shoot up (Moro reflex) and it startles her . Sometimes I can strap on the swaddle and she’ll fall back to sleep but sometimes nope , she’s not napping . And our issue is mostly getting her to stay asleep for her naps. A perpetual cat napper = overtired baby come afternoon! Adding she is 6 weeks come Tuesday

I had some luck with this method last week - getting 2-3 hour stretches of sleep through the night. However, we just stopped swaddling and I feel like I am back to rocking him to sleep and transferring him. How do we make this method work without a swaddle or pacifier?

Hey there, Dina! The swaddle transition can take a full 5-7 days! Hang in there. Here is a blog post on how to successfully transition out of the swaddle. littlezsleep.com/blog/swaddle-transition/ If your little one is close to 16 weeks of age, we recommend jumping in to our Baby Program as soon as possible so that your little one can begin to self-soothe on their own and sleep independently. Hey Becca, my question is: Since this process takes them a long time to go to sleep, do I start the routine when they show tiredness signs, or sooner? Say my newborn would normally get sleepy 30 minutes after a feed, I put her in the Moby wrap, and she falls asleep in 5 or 10 minutes. Will she get overtired if I start this 30 minutes after her feed and then it takes her 30 more minutes to fall asleep?
@littlezsleep

Hey Christianna! Great question! If you have found that right now 30 minutes is the sweet spot for your baby, you could try to help her get drowsy a couple minutes before that 30 minute mark!

Question - My sweet baby granddaughter is now almost 12 weeks old. She sleeps in a swaddle (both arms/hands wrapped), with pacifier use, and placed inside of a Snuggle Me baby lounger inside of her crib (at my house) and the raised infant platform of a pac-n-play (at home in Mom and Dad's bedroom). We Now understand that baby loungers are a huge no-no for sleeping in, but when we tried removing it a week ago from her sleeping environments, it was torturous... for my granddaughter and for me (I may or may not have cried a few times). She would NOT sleep but for 20-30 minutes at naps and my daughter said she wasn't sleeping at night either. That little baby girl was exhausted and so miserable. Also, getting her to actually go to sleep was then a horrible experience. She screamed and cried and I would have to pick her back up, hold her and try to sooth her until she finally fell asleep and I could put her down again. She would not even take the pacifier anymore she was so upset. She'd finally fall asleep but start flailing her legs and head and push really hard to get her arms out of the swaddle. She would wake herself up, hard. I care for that little blessing Monday thru' Thursday during the day, and I know I was a mess during our attempts, so she must have felt 10x's worse. Her amazing parents and l gave in after about 4 solid days of this, but I'm not sure how to transition her out?? I'm concerned about buying any particular program as we have already started off wrong and are late in the game, so I'm afraid of wasting time and money, or exasperating further my sweet granddaughter. Please Help - Signed, Baby Girl's Grandma

Hey Michelle! I am so glad you found my channel :) You are totally right that loungers are not safe for baby sleep. For something like this, I would recommend dropping the lounger cold turkey. Here are some resources I have on the DockATot (which is essentially the same thing) littlezsleep.com/blog/is-the-dockatot-safe-for-your-baby/ I also recommend transitioning out of the swaddle between 8-12 weeks. So you could do that during this time as well and she can learn how to move her body around. littlezsleep.com/blog/swaddle-transition/
