I love those ball hones!!! So much better than those three legged ones: too easy to make a conical shape. Been using those ball hones on 2T cast iron cylinders on antique scooters for years. Takes off almost no material at all. Nice video!

Thanks LML! They are pretty great little tools. Leaves a great results. The only issue is you have to have several sizes. Thanks for watching!

Excellent video. But I was wondering why do that in such close proximity to a carburetor? The grit from the procedure can’t be too good for it.

So Kyle how much you taken out of there .001 maybe ? Do you have a dial bore gauge to measure ? The motor oil seemed to work just fine ! 👍 Can't wait for the next one ‼️

Thanks Bill! .001" MAYBE, if that. It doesn't take much. I didn't measure this one. I have used ATF in the past, but this hone said to use a 10w30 so I tried that instead and it worked great. Thanks for watching!

So that 4 stroke trimmer wouldn't rev up because of the breather on the air box was the issue.

Thanks Rooster. They are great little hones! Beats those 3 legged stones for sure and offers a great end result!

Would the three rectangular stone style hones be better at correcting any cylinder out of roundness or cylinder taper? I can definitely see how the ball hone could be much better at deglazing and giving a beautiful finishing crosshatch.

I’m studying this so I know what to do when the time comes. You mentioned twice that your goal was to match the rotation of your drill to the speed you pushed the hone in and out of the cylinder in order to achieve the optimal 45 degree cross hatching, yet you never really did that. Wouldn’t that be achieved more precisely by really slowing the drill down all the way so you could actually see the revolutions and then match in and out more easily? Wouldn’t you do that towards the end of the process after removing any glaze?
