Hey JT, can you walk through a QB's mental checklist as he comes to the line? Basically elaborate on the pre-snap read, mid-play progressions, etc. Thanks!

Agree 100%. Urlacher was a football player through & through. A modern Dick Butkus or Mike Singletary. A warrior in mind & body. And Lovie Smith was excellent.

hey JT, I have a question: how do snap counts work and who calls them? does the QB communicate it in the huddle or does it depend on the play or game situation? I see a lot of QBs trying to draw the defense offsides by doing a fake count, but how does the offense know when they should actually move?
@PaulGaither

I cannot tell you about the NFL level, but when I was in High School and played Center and even when I coach and play with adult amateurs, the offensive line can tell you how the defense feels. You can feel when they get jumpy and you can draw them off. You can also tell when they are more cautios and watching the ball and you can quick or short count them.

What are the intricacies of play calling, when to call certain plays/setting up future plays and what not? You always hear on t.v. so and so coach is a bad play caller or this person is a great one. What would be the main difference between the 2?

but as far as the strong side of the off formation is the side where there is more receivers are. if the formation is "balanced" and is a single back or shot gun formation its if the the TE is on the end of the line or if its 4 wide , ( 2 by 2) it depends on where the back lines up in the back field, behind what guard. also they can shift /determine the strong side is to the OPEN SIDE of the field. as having more space to cover would default to that.
@TheTeremaster

Receivers don't matter usually. Most defenses have two strength calls, passing and running. Most of the time people are thinking of run strength when they talk about strong and weak sides. The run strength is whatever side of the box has the most blockers, or if even the defense will have a default they'll go back to, like boundary and field. Passing strength is all the receivers. Say you have a slot left look in shotgun 11 personel (2 WRs on the left, TE and WR on the right) with the RB to the left of the QB. You then have run strength right because they have the extra blocker, but it's also pass strength left because that RB counts as a third potential receiver on that side
@jaywebb0113

@@TheTeremaster yes if there is a TE in an even balance which is what you described however if there is a TE on the line and then 3 wrs to other side, the strong side is the 3 wr side. not the TE side.

Hey JT, I recently started playing Football. I live in the netherlands, so coaching and stuff isnt as efficient as I imagine it to be in the US. Your channel has helped me a bunch. I have one question though: When I run my routes as a receiver, I am not sure how exact I should stick to what I was told to do. For example: When I get told to run a 5yd in route, can I, depending on the situation deviate slightly from the call? As in, start running in an angle to square up with the defender, cut a little later because the defender hasnt opened his hips yet or cut in a slightly different angle to run into more open space.
@amiionrbull

Everything you do is always dependent on who are what is standing across from you. For example if you run a slant and your CB is playing off. Instead of you taking your 2-3 yards going straight ahead take 1-2 or even go directly for the cut. Just gotta know what you are playing against

alot of the time for the front /dline to determine what they def thinks is strong, is that the 3 tech is typically on the outside shoulder of the strong side guard and the nose/1 tech is in the gap on the weak side of the center /guard or heads up on the center. also how the ends are split. typically the wide end on the strong side who lines up over the TE and the week side will play out side shoulder of the off tackle on weak side.
@TheTeremaster
5 жыл бұрын
If they're in an over defense you're right. But some teams will run an under front which flips it and puts the 3 tech on the weak side.
