We all know that the deck is a bit too weak on the Nauticat 38. When the rig is tightened, and the boat is sailed hard over time, the deck may be damaged.
When we got our 1982 Nauticat 38 the deck was bendt a bit upwards, and the teak decking was broken. It was visible signs that the deck had moved under stress. What to do?
Our solution was as follows:
- Open the interior, to get access to the chainplate under the deck
- Remove the chainplate
- Weld a 5 mm steel plate to the chainplate to improve area
- Glue and bolt this back on
- Cover with new teak planks
Now it is much stronger, and hopefully it will last another 40 years until more work is needed on this problem.
So, now lets go sailing again!
