I still have it. I like it for the simplicity of potential engine repairs and the absence of turbo. I also have an aftermarket exhaust on it so it's got a nice tone to it in my opinion. I do tow from time to time and overall don't care that much about MPG so the 5.0 is a good fit. The 2.7 would do much better for economy and may actually still have the same power potential because of the turbo. For me, I plan to keep the truck for a long time so I went without the turbo. Good luck deciding!

You mostly compared eco mode to sport and tow/haul mode but would be really interesting to hear your thoughts on difference between eco mode and normal mode. Does it make that much of a difference setting it to eco mode assuming you still practice easy acceleration/deceleration with light foot?
@danimalshouse
Жыл бұрын
There is a difference still with Eco. The Eco mode will shift into the next gear sooner, like at a lower RPM, and it will also resist shifting into a lower gear more when you are looking to speed up or if you have cruise on and you approach a hill. Eco is generally more lazy and slow but still fine if you aren't in a hurry. I actually haven't seen a noticeable difference between normal and Eco and I don't like the extra step of switching the modes so I usually run in normal and take it easy. I would argue that Eco forces the habits that you could replicate in normal and still have the same outcome. Hope that makes sense and thanks for watching!

I get 20+ on the highway, 18+ combined. '19. Normal mode. Econ upshifts quicker. I dont use it since I don't remember to reset it every time. Here, all gas is 10% ethanol. The V8 runs better on higher octane since it is higher compression (12:1).
@jorgedisalvo5277

The question is, why buy 5.0 V8 if gasoline consumption is an issue for you?
@danimalshouse
Жыл бұрын
Valid question. I guess the quick answer is that I wanted a truck first and foremost and found with my large physical size I was most comfortable in the Ford Supercrew models compared to Ram, Chevy, and Toyota. This then narrowed me to the PowerBoost, the EcoBoost, or the 5.0. I choose the 5.0 because I felt like it may potentially be easier and less expensive to work on 10 years down the road compared to the other options. I also really appreciate the sound of the V8 trucks and planned to put an aftermarket exhaust on it. Then having made all of those choices, I determined how to make the most, MPG wise, out of what I now own. Hope that makes sense and thanks for watching.

If you ask an engineer or other trusting type they will say you are a conspiracy theorist but normal mechanics and other common sense type thinkers say that anything that cycles on and off repeatedly will wear out faster than not. Also, the temperature differences in the motor from cylinder to cylinder scare me long term. There are plenty of cars and trucks out there with the feature so it really SHOULD be fine but for me, I personally don't like it. It's up to you. Thanks!

Eco mode just feels nice in my 2020 5.0 w/ 10 speed. It's smooth and feels more like a luxury sedan. I have a supercharged mustang for ripping around. However, I do not think they should have ever approved 87 for these. 89 octane or premium only. E85 also runs nice as it has more octane than all, but your mpg will drop. Gen 3 and above coyotes are 12:1 compression ratio. Just do not do 87!!!

Good tips. I'm used to 14 mpg city with my heavy steel body 2012 Eco with 4wd 3.73s, so even 16 while driving aggressively is an improvement lol. The most I'll get going 70-75 on the freeway is about 19-20. What kind of mileage have you seen on longer highway trips going 70?
@danimalshouse

Wind has a lot to do with milage as well. Our speed limit is 70mph on the interstates and I say I average around 19mph when going about 75mph on a long trip. If I'm going 60mph on a 55mph county highway I get about 20mpg. If I'm bucking a headwind I see about a 2MPG loss because of the big nose on pickup trucks catching all of that wind. Also, when I'm feeling aggressive and don't take it easy I'm always in the 18's. Thanks for watching!
