A short video showing how to install a Black Bamboo Root Barrier. I used a barrier that was 1mm thick and 60cm wide. I dug a trench that was only 45cm deep, it should have been at least 55cm. I came up short by 10cm. The trench was so hard to dig in such a small space. My shovel did not do the job, I had to purchase a pick axe to dig deeper. The problem I encountered was a concrete post which I could not get out. Making the circular trench uneven. After digging the trench, I got out/pruned all the Rhizomes. They were everywhere. Very Alien looking and an absolute nightmare. I´ve contained it as much as I can, but only time will tell. If I prune the roots each year, everything should be ok. I am no expert on this, only from watching other videos. Thank you for watching. Anyone with any other tips, tricks on how to contain the bamboo, please comment. Rhizomes are so Alien and predatory. If I was going to do it again, I would dig deeper, buy a 2mm thick barrier and steels strips to fasten/seal it. Also even out the trench so it´s even, so the top of the barrier angles out more. Lastly I would have poured a concrete base or clay. I chose one of the hottest days of the year to do this, hopefully never again!!! Next time it´s all coming out and taking a trip to the tip.
