I just did a commercial building second story addition and they joined the new drywall to the old existing drywall on a steel beam with nowhere to screw close to the joint. This joint ran horizontal the whole length of the building about 40ft long, and it would've be a terrible butt joint. So we did a expansion joint the whole length, worked well!

The expansion piece should have been spray glued and stapled on. Then the edges of the piece should have been taped with mesh or paper.

NONE of the mudder/patchers mentioned a thing about a Control Joint. My guess is they didn't KNOW anything about them, so how COULD they?!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr .... Well anyway, thanks TONS for the video!

Why not use elastopatch instead of stapling that ugly thing in the ceiling. I don't see how elastopatch wouldn't accomplish what you're trying to fix here and it would be invisible.

@@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1 No. I understand what you mean but you're wrong in this instance. Certain applications lend themselves to different "tools", In this case, you can make the joint invisible while allowing a 600% expansion of the joint, which is far more than that rigid bridge you just made which is visually unappealing.
