Great Video Joe! Is there a way to adjust the sender? When I fill my tank it just reads 3/4 full even when fuel ooozs out the top of fill cap!

Hi Horace Lee, thanks for watching, usually the ohm range is 33 to 240 and you need to make sure your gauge is compatible to that ohm range. Check if you get that ohm range on full and empty. If you do then your sender is ok. Start by checking that and let us know 👍

Hi…when you say ‘ground’ and use the ground symbol, do you mean ground it to the boat hull (aluminum) or do you mean running that back to the negative of the battery at som point?
@joetheboatguy5394
2 жыл бұрын
Hi t f, thanks for watching, it’s always better to bring it to the negative of the battery. If you connect it on aluminium hull it will also work if the negative of battery is also connected to hull, but with time you might get issues, connection can get loose or corroded. Always better to bring it to negative bus bar or directly to the negative of the battery 👍

Older video, but it is good and explains everything very well, I have 66 C-10 Chevrolet Truck, have problems with fuel Guage, always reads empty, Guage is new only has 2 wires from dash harness, It's 30 ohms, sending unit is good, when you unplug sending wire from tank Guage reads full, by all tests I've seen shows it works, ground tank is hooked up perfectly, tests with multimeter shows sending unit work, what do you think could be the problem, SUBSCRIBED. Thanks.

Hi williambutler, thanks for watching and subscription :) If your fuel gauge only have 2 wires (power and sender). The 3rd wire is the casing which is the ground. Make sure that your fuel gauge is well grounded to frame or chassis, or the gauge won’t work. Let me know if this helps. Keep us posted 😊

Working with those metal and 12 volts, is there any danger from sparks?
@joetheboatguy5394
Жыл бұрын
Hi Beaniril8870, thanks for watching, that device is called a potentiometer, or variable resistor, it cannot create a spark, and wouldn't be able to ignite the amount of fuel it is surrounded by even if it did. No 12V is going to the fuel sender. the sender is basically a variable resistor.

Hi Erhan, thanks for watching , Yes ground is the negative of the battery. Let me know if you have more question. 👍

Hi I’m running and accessory light to my boat. Can I run a 12 V line to the fuel gauge? Thx
@joetheboatguy5394
Жыл бұрын
Hi frankram2303, thanks for watching. Yes, you can, but don’t forget that wire already has something its powering and you are adding to its load. Make sure you have the right gauge wire and fuse from existing wire. If your accessory light is a Del low amp light then it should not take much load. Hope this helps :)

Are your lights, led lights? how much power are your lights taking? You might have to tap from another device. You might be withdrawing to much power on that wire. ☹️

My gauge looks very similar to this but it's not marked as to which is the power and which is the sending terminal. I'm not getting any reading at all and it has a brand new sending unit. I switched the wires and still nothing could this be fried?
@joetheboatguy5394

Hi Icwatts, thanks for watching , if you connect the power (+12) and the ground your needle should move to the E mark empty. You might not have the right sensor. So test only with power and ground. Let me know the result 👍

What about matching the resistance of the gas tank sensor to the gas gauge resistance????
@joetheboatguy5394
9 ай бұрын
Hi tomference, thanks for watching, yes of course you need to match the resistance if you are using a custom gauge or sender. If you are using the original or OEM of your vehicle or boat, then you shouldn’t worry about that since resistance should match. If your using Custom gauge or sender Empty Full Vehicle Application 0 ohms 30 ohms Most pre-'65 GM 0 ohms 90 ohms Most GM 65-present 16 ohms 158 ohms Most '87-present Fords 73 ohms 8-12 ohms Most Fords before '87 and most Chrysler 240 ohms 33 ohms Use with 3262 sender 10 ohms 70 ohms Ford Bi-Metallic Gauges (pre-1987 F-Series Trucks) 15 ohms 160 ohms Ford Magnetic Gauges (1987 and later F-Series Trucks)

Hi akashramcharan, thanks for watching, I would try to order the same one as your car. Not make new hole. They are usually all the same size. Hope this helps 👍
