So got mine installed and one of the light sockets doesn't work. Do you think it's a product malfunction? I completed some troubleshooting making sure it's not the bulb. Thoughts?
@HowToHomeDIY
2 жыл бұрын
@@thomasford4716 If the other sockets work then there is something wrong with that one socket and not the wiring. If its not the bulb, the next place I would check is the bottom of the socket and make sure its not bent down too far so that the bulb can make contact with it. If that isn't an issue I would want to check with a multimeter if there is power getting to it to begin with. Sometimes they are just bad and have to exchange for a new one as much as that would stink to do having it installed already.

Question… I added an extra receptacle in the hallway by tapping into a receptacle around the corner. I also changed the old receptacle to a gfci. Issue is that when I plug something into the new receptacle it trips the gfci. (I did realize after going through the routing process that the old wiring seems to be a different sized wire… could this be my problem?)

Having hung thousands of light fixtures in my IBEW career this was pretty good. I know you didn't want to go deep into the weeds on this but you missed one point. Those fixture studs are 90% of the time to long and the acorn nuts don't tighten it up all the way as the studs hit the drywall ring. Not sure where you are at but here in Chicagoland everything is pipe metal box and yes other colors of wire than red/black/white. I would always put fixture strap studs through the canopy put acorn nuts on and hold it up at eye level with strap even with top edge of canopy. Then cut the extra threads on the backside of strap, leaving a little extra. I always hated those type of fixtures, pain to get level.
