Hey, I have a question. So I have a similar PSU except mine is a 750W. I have a 3070 and I’ve been reading that it’s really important to have two separate 8 pin connectors to power the GPU. My pc was prebuilt and they only have one cable from the PSU daisy chained to the GPU. With the current setup of my PSU (similar to yours), would it even be possible to run two separate 8 pin cables from the PSU to the GPU? In other words, is there even enough ports in the PSU to input the two 8 pin cables, or do I need a new PSU? Great video btw!
@BuildsWithV
3 жыл бұрын
You’d have to check the back of the psu to see if it has a PCIe port. If it does then you’d have to get the PCIe cable and then you could plug it in properly but that’s a stretch since usually they don’t give you all your psu cables and stuff and you do need the proper one from your psu. Again you maybe be able to pull it off but it’s a stretch.
@BlackjackYak54
Жыл бұрын
You need a gpu cable that has two ports at the end. It’s a split. That way you have two pcie plugs on a single cable. Most power supplies come with that. They gave you a cheaper psu. If your cpu is modular, buy a replacement pcie cable that splits into two plugs at the end. Try to use a quality cable, preferably one the same brand as your psu to prevent future issues.

I apologize if this is a dumb question. I am soon to build a desktop and was wondering a question about the power supply and fan direction. All my previous cases/power supply setups blew air horizontally at the top rear of the case. Would directing the airflow from the power supply vertically upward be beneficial? Are any cases/power supplies setup this way? Thank you.

Pc: rog strix prebuilt desktop. I don’t know the model number of my pc but it has a 2070 super and an i7-9700f I think. Another thing I was thinking of was what if it’s not even the power supply, it could be ram, cpu maybe, something else (problem being that rgb turns on and fans spin but no output to moniter or rgb razer stuff.) but now I’m thinking what if I can buy a new case and put all of the components in there? @BuildsWithV
4 жыл бұрын
Visored the whole cooler is wiggling? Or just the fan? If the whole cooler is, then something is wrong. The cooler should be tight onto the cpu otherwise you’ll have high temps. If the fan is wiggling then the fan itself could be going bad. There’s a lever on the side of the cooler that is used to secure it. Push the lever down till it’s tight if it’s not down.

Actually scratch that.. I've turned my PSU the right way, now :P and i did the same with my older pc, and then when i did, on the TX750W i saw that... well the letters werent upside down, they are on my Rog PSU, but makes sense when i bend over for the PSU powerbutton, and makes sense for the filter under, and i mean... the TX750W was actually upside down with the writing already until i turned it fan down =P And now i understand that the PSU and the GPU dont have to fight about the already kinda bad air that GPU's get to take from :P oh tho the airflow on my build is pretty neat with exhaust in front with radiator 140mm fans, and 2x 120mm for inntake, one in the back upper and one at the top mount.

@@shadowstalker7259 I did it to test it like that but unfortunately it just gets too hot so yes I flipped it back to normal.

The 8 pin connect from pcu to cpu is 2x 4-pin connectors? I’m curious

Isayah Alexander That’s weird, I haven’t experienced this issue so I’m not entirely sure what exactly would cause it. My first question would be are you sure it’s the psu that’s causing this issue? Could be something as simple as a loss or connector to a bad ram stick. Some motherboards have red leds that show what the issue might be during boot. There would be 4 red lights somewhere with a corresponding text saying “ram, cpu, bios or something along those lines). So if the red light stays on at “ram” then your issue would be the ram. Hopefully this makes sense.

has PSU’s heat been reduced now after you faced your psu fan downwards?
@BuildsWithV
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it got better since the air it was I taking was cooler air. It wasn’t a huge difference and to be honest I don’t even remember the temp difference but it was better in general. Many prebuilt PCs have the PSU pulling air from inside the case so either way I assume it’s fine. But I prefer the cooler air outside of the case.

Do you have to have everything plugged in before power supply will work. I just got a new power supply plugged into wall and nothing
@BuildsWithV

I’ve never tried to plug in a psu without anything plugged into it so I’m not 100% sure. My theory is It will need to be plugged into the motherboard at least. When you have a power supply installed in a PC the power button on the pc tells the PSU to also turn on/wake up.
@Akyomi777

Normally PSU just connected to wall won't turn on because there are 2 pins in the 24 pin connector that you have to short manually for PSU to work without motherboard

Pasha Hort so your PSU should have an 8-pin connector that fits into the 8 pin on the motherboard (usually top left corner of the motherboard). GPU uses a similar 8-pin connector but it won’t fit.
