Hi was wondering if you have any experience with these mechanical lockers and a manual transmission truck.. Seem to be reading online that people have issues with clunky banging noise every time they press in the clutch to switch gears When driving on road normal condition ...any thoughts on this

I have had much experience with these lockers and manual transmission trucks. They can give a clunk/bang in certain situations but definitely not every time you hit the clutch. In order for them to work the inner pieces on either side of the center pin have increased movement . This is obvious in that the driveshaft has more movement before it starts to move the vehicle when changing from forward to reverse. Gear contact is still tight, but there is now slack in your driveline that is normal. When hitting the clutch in certain situations the slack can cause some noise/jerking as the driveshaft has no forward pressure on it and the rearend is still moving forward so it takes up the slack to one direction, re engage the clutch and all the slack is now moved the other direction. If turning and applying or releasing the clutch at the same time, you'll have a good chance it will have a jerking/popping or noise/feel of some kind. Since an automatic transmission is always pulling forward (or backwards depending on gear selection) this is considerably less. All that to say, once you get the hang of it you can adjust your driving style to compensate for this most of the time. Go slow and leave the clutch engaged while turning when possible. Don't brake mid turn then get back on the gas hard that'll make a racket every time. Be aware the noise and jerking are not hurting anything, it's just the slack doing it's thing. Makes people look and think you just broke, but you'll know better. I hope this makes sense and helps. Before my busted knee designated me to automatic transmission duty, I drove manual vehicles with auto lockers on the road daily for many years. Like I say you'll develop a driving style that works around the issues and minimizes the noises. I would definitely move forward and install the mechanical lockers. They work great, are always on and are very hard to break (not to mention inexpensive). Let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you for watching and asking.

I've had more that one with the Lincoln Locker. For off road only, it's great.

good video. i've run the spartans in my old cherokee, but i sold it before owning for a year. now, in my taco, i'm thinking of doing the same. do you have any feedback on long term drivability?

Thank you. Yes, I've run lunch box lockers in my offroad vehicles for years. Spartans are my new favorite because they are the best price. However their design is exactly like a Lockrite. Between those 2 brands I've had years of on and off road experience and the durability and longevity is impressive. I've never had an issue. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate the support.

spartan doesn't look in bad condition?

It has only 600 miles on it. So it's basically a new unit.

Not sure if there is a difference, but my powertrax locker instruction book says to keep the side thrust washers

Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes there is a difference in different manufacturers. I used Aussie brand lockers and they require the thrust washers be retained. I think the lock rite brand does also. Spartans definitely say to remove the thrust washers. I appreciate the question
Thanks for the confirmation. I appreciate you watching.

when welding the rear end, I just welded the spider gears to the cross bar. is that good enough or should I take the spider and cross bar out and just weld the side gears to the case? thanks. its off road only.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I have always welded the spider gears to the case. I leave it complete and weld all 4 gears to the case. I've never tried it any other way.

8” differential or 8.4”?

Thanks for watching and commenting. The one I do in the video is 8". The 8.4" is done the same way. Only difference in the 8.4" is the truss across the bearing caps.
