Vai uses a DOUBLE style. 3 springs, 2 stabilzers in one piece. But then his trems are Floyd-style, full floating. I use these on my JS1000/1200 Ibanez with full-floating EdgeLow-pro/Edge Pro's. But I'm gonna tweak the installs with your info. ;-) P.S. You're the first person I've seen mention that you can use a hex wrench to stop the all-thread from turning! You are the GOAT.

You want to use two screws to fasten the trem plate. What i would do is grab a super V blade runner trem and install a two screw mount plate only. When you screw in a group of screws in a row, it actually hurts sustain and tone for some reason, versus the twin screw versions of these finder style trems. Guitar is looking great and glad to see it improving always. This was 2 years ago and my first watching your series, so i am shall get with it and view more of your fantastic videos, thanks.

Super helpful video given that the £12 Amazon variation I bought didn’t come with any fitting instructions. The gizmo itself has worked a treat on an el cheapo Bullet Strat. I’d already fitted graphtech nut and trees and locking tuners but was still having tuning stability issues when using the trem. This little device has sorted it (although the trem does have a different feel to it now). Thanks again!

I installed a very similar item in my ST guitar. It doesn't have the ball bearing like this one in the video. I have an Ibanez just like the one in this video and the trem is awful at keeping tune. It's my next candidate. Had my floating trem set up and guitar tuned. I simply mounted it so that it just touched the block with no spring compression and adjusted the two knurled adjuster nuts for not too much resistance when pulling the whammy bar up. There was adequate spring tension to return the block to the exact position for proper tuning after a dive bomb. Easy peasy. Hardest part was drilling the holes to mount it. Immediate results. Best 12 dollars I've spent on getting the trem to not leave the tuning sharp after every use of the bar. I put roller saddles and string trees to hardly any benefit but this thing worked fine. BTW, I don't use trem but I feel that if it's there it should work right otherwise I'd be just as happy with a hard tail.

These are great. Mounting is a bit of a pain but it stays in tune. A lot of artist I like use the whammy bar so I had to get one. I cut the nut & setup everything but it still stayed sharp until I installed this.

I just added one of these to a cheaper (but good) guitar with a Floyd. I didn't want to try it on a $1000 and over guitar. Two things, first is you don't need to pre-drill the holes. Just mark where the screws will go and just screw them slowly into the wood. They're tiny wood screws, they screwed in with ease. Just use a proper size screwdriver. Secondly, the unit makes a bit of noise when you pull up but it works well to keep the guitar in tune after pulling up. Not sure if it'll stay in the guitar or not but for $20 and 20 minutes of my time I figured I'd try it
@TheCleaner6969
10 ай бұрын
I would watch, you might get away with screwing into softer wood but you might break the tiny screws in a harder wood. That's why I recommend drilling.
@johns.8961
10 ай бұрын
@@TheCleaner6969 Yeah, I went by feel with the screws. This guitar has softer wood and I knew pretty quickly it wouldn't be an issue. I just used a screwdriver with a proper size head and a good handle on it. But yeah if your guitar has hard wood then drill the holes. For $20 it's a decent little device. I can even just retract it all the way if I don't want to use it. I don't even have to remove the entire device. But it works alright, I never used a tremolo stabilizer of any kind before. I fined tuned it some more after I posted my message here. One thing to watch out for, always do some dive bombs when setting this up to see if you're returning slightly flat. That happened and I had to retract the cylinder a hair and it was fine after that. Then pull up and see if it's returning to proper pitch and not coming back sharp. I just went back and forth between dropping and pulling up on the bar and checking the tuning. You won't get 100% perfect so don't obsess over a few cents on some strings, like the infamous G string. But it does keep it very close to the zero point. It's a balancing act. I mounted mine right smack in the middle and I also put some nut sauce on the cylinder to reduce any extra friction.

Thank you for the outstanding tutorial (with the accent). Love it! I am considering using this clever widget on my Harley Benton with Wilkinson floating trem. Otherwise I will opt for the FU Tone block and call it a day. Thanks for your time, brother!

You're welcome! I'm glad you like my accent :) I would recommend this one. If your nut slots are right & this is setup right it comes back to tune spot on. I just played this yesterday & really was hard on the whammy & it was just a hair out of tune that I couldn't even tell until I checked the tuner. It does change the feel of the bar though. I hope this helps you make your decision.

I'm in the same place- mine holds tune fine, but I can't tune down- something I failed to consider when buying a Floyd Rose guitar. That said- I think the way he's installing it here is for when you just want to stabilize the trem- not lock it down. I want it to where my trem. only works in one direction- so I think I'll have to install it slightly differently.

If you want better tuning stability on an old 6 screw whammy, then get a guitar with a zero fret. 95% detuning is caused by the nut, a stainless steel zero fret reduces the friction at the nut to almost nothing.
