I wonder if anyone has tried using dry ice in their water to air intercooler? Just a thought. Interesting video about turbos.
@davidmull1540

I think it would freeze any humidity/moisture in the charge air as it crossed the heat exchanger and create a blockage....if you could have a liquid to circulate that wouldn't freeze with the addition of the dry ice
@Calvin-Nelson

You'd probably have to run antifreeze, which is usually frowned upon at the track.

@@davidmull1540 One would think that the water would freeze, but how many of us have watched the old monster movies where the mad scientist has this bubbling caldron of foggy mist? That's just dry ice in water. I've put dry ice into a cup of water and it just makes fog and bubbles, the water doesn't freeze. Would be an interesting experiment.

Why do turbo 400 and Ford 9” rob power? I never heard that before.
@troymecey
Жыл бұрын
It's why guys run power glides- internal efficiency. 9" rear-ends are supposed to be less efficient than say a 10 or 12 bolt rear-end.
@chadrudduck5019
Жыл бұрын
The TH400 internals are heavier, and gear ratios are different. The 9" pinion is deeper into the ring gear than many other differentials. They're both strong, but take more power to drive than some of their counterparts.
@Calvin-Nelson
Жыл бұрын
8.8 is way more efficient because of the hypoid angle (I think that's what it is called). Th400 are decently efficient, but the torque converter consumes some power.

Your explanation for oil drainage is on the money! A good way to avoid a small internal diameter, would be to run hard tubing into the upper bit of the pan. Match the -12 diameter all the way from the turbo oil dump and to the interior of the pan, and you're golden! Part of the reason a large drain is needed, is that the oil is assumed to be aerated after its trip thru the journal bearings. Treat it thus and you'll have fewer issues. Good video; thanks!

When i pulled my first turbo kit off i made, i had a 5/8” hose barb welded to the pan below 1-1/2” off the pan floor and never had a problem but always went straight. If i would have mad a hard left turn one day i may have had oil back up into the turbo drain but it was like that for many years without problems, in my head when i did it i fugured that would eliminate cc pressure backing up the tube lol
