Something very important was missed after the installation in this video. Make sure you refill the new water heater before turning on the breaker to the power supply for the heater. Otherwise you will burn the elements out in the new unit. Open a hot water faucet in the house and turn the water heaters cold supply back on until water comes out of the open hot water faucet. I agree with the commenter below, the Lowes video is way better even though This Old House rocks!

Very helpful video, but there's one step not mentioned for drainage: manually open the Temperature & Pressure Relief valve!

Exactly as the earliest reply said-expect it to go any time now. Mine did. We were gone for Covid when it happened. Usually the water bill is about $45/month. They bill every other month. Only on receiving a $900 water bill forwarded to us that second month did I know anything had gone awry. Because we’ve been there over 25 years (and thus had established a good payment history with them), the water company kindly let us pay that off over time. Word to the wise: When they go, they go. So definitely replace it sooner rather than later, as suggested here.

How would that help you when it's at the top of the tank
@Sirshort123
5 ай бұрын
@@AA-zq1sxwhen you flip a full bottle of water upside down, the water glugs out, because air sucks in through the same hole. Gasoline cans have a small hole at the opposite side of the spout, so that the glugging doesn’t happen at the spout, the air pressure inside the can is able to stay normal because air isn’t forced to enter the can through the same hole that the gas is trying to exit. So the same would apply with the water heater. Draining it will glug and sputter and drain slowly, so opening a pressure relief would help the water flow out, smoothly. Thanks OP for the suggestion btw ✌🏼

This has performed exactly as desired kzitem.infoUgkx8G49mV71sAzUl9shXyLW-r3XgHH9EVh1 . Basically, instant hot water instead of waiting up to two minutes as it was before. I have had this installed almost exactly one year now and just replaced the anode which is pictured. I pulled it out at six months and cleaned the heating element and removed debris. I would recommend a cleaning every six months and an anode replacement yearly. A mild citric acid and water solution soak really helps clean the heating element and tank. It must be fully disassembled to do the cleaning and that is not difficult but could have been made easier with a couple of design changes but no big deal.

I see that the installer was manually twisting the wires together. I was always told to never do this. That a pro will connect wires together by the nut only? Curious as to why this was shown how connect this way? Is this correct? Experts tell me otherwise. Just checking if the vid needs an update? Thank you.

Video is helpful introducing all the terminology. However, does not comply with CA regulations: they require electrical disconnect box installed nearby and also flood preventing device or a dedicated drain. It would be helpful to discuss these things.
