Got into a fight with a blown truck tire on the highway... the tire won destroying my oil pan and oil pump. Didn't know once I replaced the oil pan and oil pump pickup tube that the pump itself was damaged as well! Noticed it once I put everything in and the oil light was blinking indicating that it has low pressure leading me to believe it's the pump itself! Thanks for the video man it looked like more than it actually is!

Thanks for the videos mate, they are a God send, it's one thing to read things from a manual but it's always better to actually see someone do it, got all your videos saved and ready to use once I get my block back from the machine shop 👍

how did you actually lock the flywheel in order to tighten down the crank gear bolt
@c10frost85

Never double check torque specs while bolting nuts/bolts down, double checking actually over torques.

I'm sure it's fine. I usually overtorque a little anyway - there's a margin of error built into the numbers.

did you ever figure out how to lock the crankshaft in place in order to tighten it? am in the same spot but in reverse, I need to take the crank pulley off and now I need to figure out a way to keep it from spinning.

Hey pinchAl. If i follow your videos to the Ps and Qs. Should building my bex 1.8t motor be any different? Like all the parts i see here in your build should be the same as what i would see when i pull my motor apart? Cuz this is my first motor build that im doing myself.. and if i can apply exactly what i learned from your videos to my motor then shouldnt have any problems if im using all new parts

MR CT NGUYEN In theory it should all be the same however I would suggest a bently manual to use as a refrence guide because some TQ specs might change for some parts.

When you're applying the silicone for the sump pan - I know the bead of the sealant needs to be to an absolute minimum, but doesn't seem like you applied enough... did you have oil leaks after? and why are you applying it over the bolt holes?
@PincheALsGarage
6 жыл бұрын
wizkid01 did not have any leaks. I just smeared the over the holes does not cause any issues.

PincheAls Garage I would have thought you apply the sealant on the inner surface of the block yet you went over the bolt holes .. So it is surprising you had no leaks

wizkid01 yeah i do it this way all the time. Never had issues with leaks. VR6 pans are a whole different story. You have to use a new gasket everytime. Freekin sucks. $30 to $50 per gasket.

PincheAls Garage yea the old engines were the best engines a time when they had proper rubber gaskets. With these new(er) engines I think it's a very fine line between what is sufficient and too much sealant. But what I try to do is I try to replicate what was there before. I always use the oem vw sealant - it cost more but I've never had a leak when using it. I find it's a better product to conventional rtv, it's a more solid harder drying sealant whilst still retaining the flexibility.

wizkid01 very true. The oem stuff is amazing and almost idiot proof. We had a tube but it was all dried up...lol The best results for rtv application i truly believe is all in the torqueing of the oil pan and If its done to quickly or not in a star pattern it will never seal right.
