Pretty good video dude, as an installer I think you made it very clear for people wanting to do diy work. The tool you were thinking of with the poles is typically called a power stretcher, normally it's recommended to use one on all installations because the knee kicker is only for setup these days. I noticed you were using it as a computer room to I'd recommend getting one of those plastic or rubber office mats if you have a chair with wheels because they destroy carpet pretty quick.
@JessedoesDIY
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, appreciate it! I tried to make it as clear as I could that this method is for small rooms only. Yeah the power stretcher, I remembered it after lol oh well. I know the kicker isn't the normal go to method, but it can get the job done in a small space for people to tackle. I am now using a plastic mat yeah, I didn't want to wreck the new carpet. I had one on order but it wasn't in the video, and I didn't care about that gross old carpet lol. Thanks for watching and reaching out! Happy new year

Hey there, sorry for the delayed response. It's definately at that point where I'd consider a stretcher. First, great video, congrads. Just a quick one since I'm a complete novice DIY . So in our small bedroom, there is an existing carpet, underlay underneath which I was going to replace. Now under the underlay, what do I expect to see, concrete ? Does the underlay go directly onto concrete ? I'm in Ireland, in a dormer, house on ground floor is concrete, where this small bedroom I going was to switch to office but rather than using laminate, though carpet would be nice.
@JessedoesDIY
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Well typically for me here I'd expect to see a plywood or OSB subfloor, I just happened to find vinyl tiles under this one in my house. Over there that's a good question, if the rest of the house on ground floor is concrete then that's probably what you'll find. But if you do install carpet on concrete, you'll need to glue down the underlay with a spray adhesive or something. The tack strips should be able to just be nailed down like normal if you get a concrete specific one. If you decide to go a ifferent direction tho and don't want to tackle carpet, I'd look at LVP. Typically I'm not a big fan of it in main areas but it has great use cases, this being on of them. Laminate doesn't play too nicely with concrete in the long term, LVP will be better, but carpet is the warmest as well. Your call my man, unfortunately you won't know until it's ripped up, or at least pull a corner back up to see. Good luck!

Thanks! It's just a mid level carpet I bought from a local wholesale place. It has a straight pile, and I can't remember the colour. It was like Old harbor grey or something. I quite like it. Sure transformed the room

Missing out on the power stretcher! Huge risk of waves in the middle of the room from the carpet losing its stretch. Knee kickers are a great positioning tool, not the strongest stretching tool.
