If you don't install a drain what keeps the water from accumulating that close to the house and damaging the foundation?

Showing ear protection is a sign of a real pro. Unfortunately, lots of people don't value hearing as much as sight & breathing. My wife damaged her ears in high school matching band. Her hearing aids cost over $4000

I would just add that the stone drip edge looks better than bare uneven soil that has washed away the grass and also keeps soil from washing away. I would only install French drains if you're having foundation problems or water in your basement.

They help with erosion, and allow the water to soak through rather than washing soil away.

How deep are the stones? I have to install, but on a slight grade. Yours looks really good. Thank you!

Do some stones work better than others? Is there a type of stone that does not work well?

Hello! I know it's been 6 years since this video was posted but hopefully, someone will read it and maybe have an answer for me. So, I get the reason for this drip edge is the keep soil from splashing back up onto the house foundation and to prevent erosion but does it help in regrading an area along side the home? I think I read (or heard) that the rock help with water/rain absorbsion but, I'd don't think I WANT the water to absorb up against my house. I want it to roll AWAY from my house THEN absorb into the grass. So, I guess my question is, if I add this drip edge along side my home where the soil has become eroded by rain and I build it up to where the skirt of the house meets the siding and slop it away from my house by 8 feet or so (that's where the walkway starts) will this help water NOT GATHER UP AGAINST MY HOME? Or, am I in need of another solution? Gosh, I hope this question doesn't sound too ignorent but guys, I'm really just trying to learn so please forgive me if it does. Thanks!

Femineity Hello, you will need to install French Drains around your property. Just search it here on KZitem. There's tons of videos. Hope this helps. I have to do the same thing.

Look into yard French drains. These require digging trenches at a slope with stone and perforated pipe to draw the water away. It helps to have an existing slope to the yard, else you'll have to figure out a destination for the water.

Agreed. If you have to move water from point A to point B you’ll want a pipe to convey the water. Drip edges are not for drainage solutions as much as they are for keeping sills dry and the mulch and soil off the foundation as well as keeping the house clean. The best bet may be to connect the downspout to a pipe and into a drywall. Check out the NDS website for solutions.

What do those stones do ? Blue stone ? Does it absorb water let it raise to the top ?

Ahh. Good question. Weed fabric is misleading. We don't use it but will on occasion you use geo textile which looks similar. Weed fabric is generally ineffective because weed seeds blow on top of the soil, stone and mulch and germinate.

Shouldn't you use some kind of weed block so that nothing grows threw?
