Hey guys, nice quick release hood! Have you made a video of a quick/emergency release of the xj (1994 and earlier) rear hatch from the inside? My 1994 xj has a button that you push in from the outside to open the rear hatch, but sometimes I wish I could open it from the inside when I sleep back there. Keep up the cool vids!

I'm not sure I would recommend these for someone such as myself who live in northern climates.... a little moisture gets in the button and the temp goes to 6 degrees like it is here in Minnesota right now you're basically locked out of your engine compartment

@@bleepinjeep Lock de-icer fluid that can be sprayed, or heat up a key and stick it in. The issue in my mind would be that a keyhole is mounted vertically, so wouldn't get as much moisture in it, while the flat quick release might get more. One could probably heat the locking part lightly if frozen , maybe fill it with grease so moisture couldn't get in? One other quick question, I noticed in the video that the latches were left on each side when the part they clamp to was removed, as well as some of the underhood release stuff. Could the latches be removed? Or are they needed? I ask, because I've dealt with a couple of snapped hood release cables and nearly seized hood latches. Sorry if I missed the answer to the second question in the video, lack of sleep here. ☺

Just check with state laws. Some states they aren't legal with pins and safety catch. Like PA. You have to have the factory release for state inspection. Which side effect is if a cop sees you find this setup he can ticket you because the vehicle isn't to state safety and shouldn't be on the roads...learned this the hard way...
@717Jeepin

Damn I'm in PA and I was just going to ask about that

Actualy I just looked up the rules for PA and it says "§ 175.77. Body. (c) Hood and hood latches. The entire motor compartment of a vehicle specified under this subchapter shall be covered by a hood. *The hood shall be equipped with a double latch system to hold it in the closed position if the hood was originally so equipped.* ". That sounds like it should be legal as long as it has 2 latches. It doesnt say anything about it having to be factory

Great simple how to video, love the humor and group effort. Extra points for wearing the safety squints! I know panel fitment isn't really a priority with this build so I understand why you didn't go into detail for this install - will these hood pins impact panel gap? I assume the gaps/hinges need to be perfectly set BEFORE locating the pins, correct?

panel gap is determined by the hinges, not the hood pins, these will have no affect on that other than the height which is easy to move up or down.
