Sir, I must say that this is ABSOLUTELY the correct way to do this. There are so many videos here on YT that skip these important steps and make it seem easier than what it actually is. I love the way you broke down every step. Your instructions were clear and you nailed it! I am in the process of recording the exact same process but really might just direct everyone to this video! Thanks for sharing.

I have a master bathroom that we want to switch to LVP and it’s about 10 x 6. We will contract out the work since we are redoing the whole bathroom, so would it be cheaper to NOT demo the existing tile floor and put it on top or would it not make a difference? Thinking saving on labor cost.

@@shawnr771 Yeah then you'd have lost an hour, need to dump all the debris and have a plywood substrate instead of a more or less water proof substrate. You'd still have to adjust the transition out of the bathroom. What would you gain?
@shawnr771
2 жыл бұрын
@@walnutcontractors5661 I did not have to adjust anything. New tile went right back down. Same transition. The debris was mainly full tiles and easy to carry. Get underneath one edge and tap them with a chisel. Popped up the whole tile. I tossed in a barrel and the trash company hauled it off. In the bathroom that was remodeled I had applied a waterproof membrane system in 1998. Zero water penetration in 23 years. Use a stone to knock off the high spots of the mortar. Applied 2 coats of waterproof sealer from DRYVIT called CLEAR SEAL to all the surfaces before install of new tile.

I've had the pleasure to watch flooring pros a few times now. They always do floor prep and will not back down if you try to tell them to skip the flooring prep. I've done some flooring and have to agree to always do some sort of floor prepping. It might be a lot, it might be a little, but prep work is required. It makes installation easier and durable.

Great video ! Duraclic from lowes is much nicer than the homedepot lifeproof LVP. I haven't tried the homedecorations line. My pain points when using SLC is when you push it into the wall it ends up rebounding and forming a ridge. Your point is spot on to check after you can walk on it and scrape down any ridges like that - I even found much later you can scrape it down with a glazing bar. You definitely can't expect the SLC to actually self level, trowel is a must. I use the window install horseshoes and a straightedge exactly as you did. The horse shoes are 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 in size and different colors. Nice to get away with only 1 lift of SLC ! Also recommend using cold water to give yourself more working time with the SLC especially if you are doing this in the summer and the substrates are not cold.

What is the purpose of priming the floor before the self-leveler? Also, do you need to even apply primer if your floor is already level that you're installing it over? Can you just put LVP directly over level tile?
@jaskang3695

The self leveling concrete is to level the floor. The primer is so the concrete adheres to the tile. If your floor is already level then just install the LVP directly.
